Utterly without passion, emotion, insight, or even uniquely functioning eyeballs. Under what compulsion, for what purpose, do people like this write at all? One is forced to wonder for how long Teicher laboured in search of the precise words to express such deep, poetic observations as:

"All words are lies. There is
no such thing as a lie." (p27)

"Because my white dog sleeps
in corners, we let her sleep." (p28)

How freshman Comp, how bland. This guy has nothing to say.

I wrote this book. It's my book. So I'm biased. That said, I like it.
i really like these poems, and the way that teicher builds the world through simple language. i have to admit, though, that sometimes the talkiness of it all became a distraction for me. would have been 5 stars except that at times these felt more like monologues and less like poems (and not in an intentional way). still, some thoroughly gripping enchanting stuff in this volume, and a voice that will resonate with middle class urban and suburban america.

I was lucky enough to get an advanced look at this book. Teicher is my favorite young poet working today and this book only confirms what those of us familiar with his work already know - the guy's a genius. Even if you're not a poetry person, you won't be able to put this book down. Haunts and inspires. s
The poem that made me buy this book was "Eye Contact" which began with a quote from C.S. Lewis. Of course that peaked my interest. This was the 3rd poem in the book. The following poems never quite captured me as much after that one but I enjoyed them overall.
I really liked the poem "I am a human man." I appreciated other parts of the book, but just not for me in the grand scheme of things...
I haven't read a book that has gotten me this excited in a while. Loved it. This is one I will come back to again and again.
Loved everything except the closing long poem.
