It failed to disappoint. I love this book. The first time I read it I was just a sophomore student in high school and I just couldn't put it down. It really different from the usual stories that I was used to reading. I promised myself then that I will buy a copy of my own.

I started collecting books then with John Grisham's and Agatha Christie's works. It was so hard to find this book from second-hand bookstores. I couldn't afford to buy a new one since I was still a student and lived on a tight
When I finished reading this book, my first reaction was...

I mean, after all the excruciating details for the bull run, the convent, what happened with Sister Teresa in the military camp and some other things that I cannot remember anymore (I did mention in my other reviews that I do not have a good memory), I found the ending somewhat lacking. Okay, to be perfectly honest, I found the ending totally lacking. After reading this book and after my "what the hell?" moment, I really wanted to hit so
“The difference between a rebel and a patriot depends upon who is in power at the moment.” — Sidney Sheldon, Sands of Time

The Sands of Time is an action-packed novel published in 1988 by the Master of Unexpected, Sidney Sheldon.

The story is set 37 years after the Civil War in Spain or the Spanish Inquisition (which lasted from 1936-1939). Remember, that Civil War was one of the bloodiest civil wars in history. More than half people lost their homes and lives in the battles for power between the

Sands of Time by Sydney Sheldon keeps you hooked till the end despite obvious flaws and loopholes in the plot. Based in the backdrop of Spanish Civil war between the Basques and the Spanish government, 'Sands of Time' is a story of Jaime Miro, a legendary, fearless and most-wanted terrorist, fighting for the rights of the Basque people against the authorities. The Spanish Prime Minister is on a hunt for Miro, and has deployed Colonel Acoca to bring Miro to justice for his crimes against the stat ...more
This is a story of four nuns who were able to escape the hostile military forces of Acoca who got into their convent. They were instructed by the Reverend Mother to take the convent's most precious possession with them and bring it to the next convent where it can be safely kept and where they can seek refuge as well. However, they fall into the hands of the rebel group led by Jaime Miro.

Jaime Miro was ultimately the handsomest rebel this story has ever created. He was so manly, undeniably char
It has been an engrossing and entertaining read throughout the time i had this book. The book can be described as a true novel with mixed feelings and emotions throughout and as the title aptly describes, a sequence of events(adventures would be better) and feelings and their change with time. Its worthy of the time you spent
A problem i had noticed was that each character had a flashback to him/her and it becomes difficult to match the characters with their flashblack as the story progresses and i

Damn did I love this book or what. The four nuns were the best characters each with a different catchy story. Each finding love, each having the most not to expect ending. Each becoming a nun not by choice. The story of their lives, Lucia daughter of Mafia boss came to the nun to hide, Megan abandon in Italy as an American baby, Teresia, became a nun to run away from a heartbreaking home, Graciela, the beauty of them all who remained married to the church after all the drama. Then Jaime Miro, th ...more
Sidney Sheldon spins a yarn that is both entertaining and addictive. It was a spellbinding moment reading the thick and rich plot. At first, I thought Sands of Times is gory and bloody, chaotic, historical and violent. However, it was the opposite. It was a 400 page full of reminisces of each of the major characters.

On the other hand, Sidney Sheldon's writing prowess is sometimes predictable, in a good sense that you want to prove you're right. And when you are, you felt great because you feel

Nuns and rebels teaming up... who would have imagined huh?? Well luckily the master of novel writing did!!! Nothing i say can do justice to this book. Magen an orphan who has no option but joining the convent. Teressa, joins up to escape her tragic heart break and finds peace, at last. Graciella joins out of true desire to be with God. And my favorite, Lucia a murderer wanted across state lines, joins because she needs a hide out. And colonel Acoca happens..... They get dumped into the world and ...more
Another Sidney Sheldon book with strong heroines and huge plots. Once again, Sidney Sheldon shows his attitude of money-and-power-can-buy-anyone-or-anything. I was kinda surprised reading the blurb when I came to know that the heroines are nuns. The freedom fighting, terrorists and spies make the book all the more interesting and spicy. Well, there were few gross, filthy parts (every book of his has some!) that I hated. The prose was kinda bland too but somehow added glamour to the thriller. I l ...more
Warning: Once you start you cannot stop, seriously. You have to make sure you're not in the middle of something (especially cooking, or in my case studying for exams). This is the very definition of page-turner brought to you by the master story teller himself.

This is one of the best of Sidney Sheldon (the other one is The Master of the Game)! I finished it in one sitting, believe me. And it was midterms week, of all things! I think I went to bed at 4am back then. I didn't regret it though, my e

Історі ...more

One my favorite books. Another book I cried to and I fell in love with Jaime Miro.

In my opinion, one of Sidney Sheldon's best. It had suspense, humor, romance and history all rolled into one.

This is one of Sidney Sheldon's best books. But not one of the paramount thriller novels of all time. Keen Sheldon fans (like myself) will love it, but the average suspense reader might barely like it.

The plot is Sheldon-esque. And the sights of Spain are scenically detailed. Yet, the story becomes easy to foretell after the second half.

The Sands of Time is also intriguing for those who are interested in the Spanish Civil War's history - as Sheldon did a tactful job of including bountiful resea

Can't stop reading it.It was really weird at the beginning but in a good way.Plus it has prayers in it which makes the book even more interesting.Never expected any of their ending like that IT WAS DA BOMB OK!! Especially Teresa, her ending was like the weirdest for me and so dumb (so offense). But yeah,if you're reading this and you don't know wether to read it or not (the book is kinda thick tbh maybe some of you won't be even interested in the 1st place) YOU SHOULD READ IT and if you don't want ...more

I've read a lot of books, most of the time, I forgot the author and sometimes, even the title itself. I only remember the story. But this is the book that I've never forgotten. I read this book when I was in my 6th grade, back then I cannot even understand some phrase and words, I had to kept asking my father about the meaning and had to carry a small English-Tagalog dictionary with me so I can understand it. But I never stopped reading because the story is holding me tight, it never wants me to ...more

Despite some flaws and fantasy, I enjoyed the book through to the end more than 'Nothing lasts forever' but still I am giving it 4 stars because I think it had too much drama, too many plots and too many 'seriously? can this happen in real?' moments whereas 'Nothing lasts forever' was more realistic. The story is unique though.

It is the story of 4 nuns from different countries with different background that led them to become nuns and by fate; they all end up in one convent.

Spain - a land of eternal passion and unceasing bloodshed. Fleeing the vengeance of a pitiless tyrant, four nuns find themselves suddenly thrust into a hostile world which they had long ago abandoned for the safety of the convent. Unwittingly, they become pawns in a battle between the charismatic Jaime Miró, leader of the outlawed Basque nationalists, and the ruthless Colonel Ramón Acoca of the Spanish Army.

Fecondo confezionatore di bestsellers americani tipici degli anni Settanta/Ottanta – caratterizzati da trame tortuose altamente improbabili e inframmezzati da urticanti descrizioni esplicite di sesso – Sidney Sheldon ha prodotto romanzi di un certo interesse come “L’altra faccia di mezzanotte” che, pur nei limiti del genere commercial-popolare a cui è da ascrivere, presentava uno sviluppo abbastanza convincente delle vicende e una fascinosa caratterizzazione dei personaggi. set in the turbulent times of spain when the basques are raging war on the spanish government, it's a must-read for all book lovers who loves plenty of drama, action and lots of romance (including steamy scenes of lucia's past)

i love this book!!! the best sheldon novel to date!

the different intertwined stories of the four nuns--megan, graciella, theresa and lucia are well written. each of the four women are by chance in the same convent.

Recommended to me by a Japanese person studying English, she described Sheldon as an author who was popular in the 70s...which makes sense, since I couldn`t read in the 70s and I`ve never heard of the person before.

With no expectations, I gave the book a try - and it didn`t disappoint, though without expectations, this isn`t too much of a feat. It reads like a romance novel with slightly more substance.

The plot centers around a group of nuns during the Revolution in Spain - three are actually nu
this is one of the stories which i've read through flips... i keep jumping from one chapter to another and i kind of predicted what would happen. and it pretty mush did.

i like the story for the captivating choice of words. the plot and everything. but i just realized that this type of story is just not my thing.

i would not want to just sticking with sci-fi.. and this one is an okay story. guess i should keep looking till i find a nice historical fiction.
This novel is amazing - one of Sheldon's best masterpiece that I know and read already.
Telling the stories of 4 women from 4 different countries with each different, inexplicable dark story of their own and with 4 personalities so intense.
The sex scenes here is like the actions - fast, furious, fascinating.
An ultimate fast-paced novel - a truly page-turner. You won't want to stop before the end.. which is quite explosive! Totally recommended.

A story of basques revolt against spanish state. A story of four nuns and how they find escape from their utterly vomited lives and find church a place of solace and comfort, then how their lives transform and they happen to interact basque terrorists, How they are convinced that " difference between patriot and rebel depends on who has got the power". Accoca remains after jaime, like fox after rabit. Nuns collaboration with basques brings new direction of unique story.
I think its a great book, helps a bit with knowledge and ties fiction with reality. It has many stories tied together that makes the best part. But i do not know what went wrong to Sister Teresa. She had died for nothing, her life hadn't taught her anything but failure. There is God and he does watch over everyone, and asks for patience which was never a feature in Sister Teresa. She had no patience and she gets everything wrong thinking it was a sign. It has deeper meanings and deeper signs. Ev ...more

I really had my doubts about any story featuring four nuns as the main protagonists along with Basque separatists/terrorists on a mad chaise across the Spanish countryside trying to stay one step ahead of the Spanish army. The characters are not always as they appear and have been given a great deal of depth in their back stories. I found myself rooting for murderers, bombers and bank robbers in this engaging tale!
The beginning was a little slow but, eventually, turned out a great novel. I have read seven other Sidney Sheldon books and this one has a very satisfying ending compared to most of the others. It was wisely constructed eventhough I was not really fond of its theme and setting, hence, it was less informative than his other works. My only complain is that in the beginning, he built up this one character a little too much only to find out that, about in the middle, the other protagonist ends up be ...more
