This book is structured around chapters that each pursue a sub-theme of suburban landscape/psychology by centering the writing around a work of fiction and a film. So, for example, a chapter on masculinity in suburbia is fleshed out through the discussion of Rabbit Redux by John Updike and the film The Graduate (though it isn't so rigid; Beuka weaves other films and novels in each chapter).
