There are lots of books about Paris - guides to museums, guides to restaurants, guides to chic hang-outs, the homes of famous writers, etc. This little book, on the other hand, lists quiet little out-of-the-way places to hang out, read a book, or occasionally sip a cup of tea. The photos look like they must have all been taken in May, when Paris blooms with color, and they add to the enticement of each location documented. I read this just for nostalgic reasons. Beautiful photographs and a little snippet on an overlooked place of peace in a vibrant city. Some I had visited, most I'd never heard of. For this very reason, I think I should start planning my next trip to Paris and check these quiet corners out for myself. My favorite quiet corner of Paris is the central park of Place des Voges and is not mentioned; that disappointed me. The author chooses places of beauty where one can be a little lonely in the great city so this seems a good book to take...more
Very nice. Tourist sites in Paris are hot, annoying, crowded, & mildly overrated. A lot of very cool places are in this book that, well, almost no tourists go to. So. Yup. That's all. I like it.
