It is early winter right after the New Year 2059 and Eve is called to the murder scene of a sidewalk sleeper. Wondering why "homicide lite" simply doesn't handle the case, Eve quickly learns the reason why. The old homeless man who was murdered had his heart neatly, surgically removed.
At the crime scene Eve bumps heads with a troublemaker cop who has been jealous of Eve since the academy days when Eve, even then, was a star on the fast track.

It's not perfect. It's not the best writing in the world. But it works.
I did like the direction this one went in. (view spoiler)[Even if Eve's reaction to her suspension was at times painful to read. Very painful. Sommerset continued to be absolutely awesome. Loved him calling Roarke when Eve walked in beaten and telling him that she'd just come, he'd insulted her and she'd apologized and that therefore "Something needed...more
It was great to see the other side of Eve. Poor Eve. I was a bit angry at Roarke for not being very sympathetic for long but I guess he know what she needed.
The mind of the author is truly terrifying sometimes...and maybe I am for reading this two. The homicide cases seem to get mor...more

In the eighth installment of the futuristic In Death series, police Lieutenant Eve Dallas is called to the murder of a sidewalk sleeper that had his heart meticulously cut out of his chest, with the precision of a surgeon, and removed from the scene.
Dallas buts heads with the first officer on the scene, Bowers, once Eve sees that the scene was not secured properly. Eve gives Bowers a tongue-lashing and the officer becomes insubordin...more
There's a killer on the loose who seems to have more than a little medical expertise and is leaving his 'patients' all over Eve's New York. Not acceptable.
Eve Dallas is many things; brave, dedicated, tenacious, fierce, headstrong. Until this book I don't think I quite realised how much of that...spirit, comes from her job as a cop. Her status, the symbols of her position; her gun, her badge, and jus...more

Streetwise cop Eve Dallas and her trusty sidekick Peabody face a methodical killer in this latest addition to the In Death series by J.D. Robb, better known as the bestselling author Nora Roberts.
In the late 21st century, on the streets of New York City, a street sleeper is found murdered, his diseased heart removed with surgical
What is there to say that hasn’t been said countless times by JD Robb? She’s brilliant and Conspiracy in Death, the eight book in the In Death series is great!
Eve Dallas is simply the best at what she does. And others have started to take notice. When a fellow cop, Bowers the bitch starts hassling Eve on her turf, Eve has no choice but to defend herself. With a few heated words and early threats, things seem to be close to its boiling point rather than simmering down....more
