everyone who ever hopes to be in a healthy complete relationship
The title of this book sounds TOTALLY cheezy, but it is fantastic. I read it as I was re-evaluating after an intense breakup and kind of messed up relationship, finding myself potentially launching into a new relationship.
The book is part self-help, part Buddhist-y, and is made up of short chapters with different lessons to learn. Meta-chapters walk you through the progression of a relationship. What I like about this book a lot is its emphasis on dealing with pain and becoming whole, in ord...more

Linda!
Tahnk you very much for your present!
As always you know what is appriopriate in every situation!
I liked the book a lot! I would have to read it again to apply some of the wisdom!
Following the spirit I highly recomend "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse. The heart opening stories!
"When we dive into the ocean, we become the sea".
"Rather than saying, "Worship me," he taught people to become free of their illusions so they could be in touch with their inner radiance, or as some say, the luminous essence at the center of their being -- the natural wellspring of compassion, kindness, and tranquility. He believed that from this place we would see each other clearly, free of expectations and images from the past."...more

everyone who is dating or in a serious relationship, buddhist or not.
i loved this book. i think anyone who is dating or already in a serious relationship, but not yet married should read it. i don't buy many books, i usually get all my books from the library, but i made a point to purchase this one. it's shelved in the self-help section of the bookstore, but it isn't really. it's much more thoughtful and centered in the sparing advice and suggestions it offers. i like that it focuses on remaining true to your spiritual journey and finding love that fits into...more

No lie: I borrowed this book from my friend and while in the midst of reading it, Rob (not then my husband) asked what I was reading. Feeling very self-conscious, and um, exposed, I nevertheless told him the truth but downplayed the "I am desperate and reading self-help books on love" part. Even though the title is "cheesy"if not "new agey", the book is pretty down to earth. I recommend it to anyone interested in developing a good, healthy relationship. (Not that ...more

I remember seeing this book in a bookstore and kind of laughing at it. The next day I was sharing a table for lunch and these women were talking about there relationships and one woman was describing me and my ex perfectly. I finally asked where she had learned so much and she said "this little book called 'If the Buddha Dated." I laughed to myself and went back and got the book. I don't have the book anymore because the last person I lent it to moved, but that book got around! everyon...more

I love this book and enjoy reading it over and over again.
Embarrassingly enough I have read tons of dating books, but this book is way more than a how-to on finding love through dating; it would be better described as a how-to on finding love in life and how to live in a more peaceful, connected way to your own happiness.
Big thanks to Sujana for turning me onto this book!

Still working my way through it.
Overall, I like it quite a bit. Kasl's advice matches my own experience fairly well: the less attachment we couple to our desire, the more fulfilling it feels when our desires are met.
What doesn't come through very clearly is the author's goals for her own life. She seems implicitly to desire a fulfilling relationship, yet is currently single and evidently not actively engaged in finding a partner (or being found as a partner). Desire without attachmen...more

my friend shelli gave me this book. god bless, her she's always looking out for me. this is not a book about how you can change yourself to attract others, and i would not put it in the 'self-help' category, even though the bookstore does. but rather it's a book on becoming the best person you can possibly be - all the while loving yourself and seeking to be present in the every day. kasl also has some interesting exercises that made me think about characteristics that i would seek in a partner....more

I really hate relationship books. I especially hate self-help ones which claim to aid you in your search for a fulfilling relationship but really promote all kinds of self-destructive and facade behavior. This book is different. It is about the real tension of being in the presence of someone you care for and how to honor yourself and someone else with the real meat of love. REALLY, it's something I reread during times of confusion and find some truth to lean on.

I picked this one up because Alison read it. I am a sucker for any Buddhist type books. I thought it was a nice little read- quick and interesting. The end may have gotten a little too hippie-dippie for me and it did bounce around all sorts of spiritual traditions including Christian, Buddhist, Sufi and a few others I am not too familiar with...I did very much enjoy the cover...it would be a great tattoo! ;)

This is not a great book, but it is a good book. It has a lot of theory, but it also has a lot of hands-on exercises too. More than anything, it's about navel-gazing, trying to figure out what you want and who you want and then focusing your energy on that, rather than wasting time.

I read this in college. I need to go back to this, reviewing all my underlined notes and scribbles. This book by Kasl was passed along from family member to family member proving that we are all in search of a compassionate, loving, spiritual relationship.

Very helpful and insightful. Started reading it prior to meeting Gorgeous Bryan and guess what? On our first date, I learned he is a Buddhist, and, well, the conversation got pretty interesting when he asked what I was reading.

I appreciate Charlotte Kasl's spiritual approach to relationships, she's not about quick fixes, or 10-steps-to-finding-your man, or how-to-talk-to-a-man kind of writer. Her tips are authentic, spiritually based and encouraging.

This was a nice read for a self help kind of book. It's broken up into many sections and was easy to read a little at a time and focus. Overall emphasises compassion and self awareness without getting too intense.

I read this book 5 times. I found it inspiring and hope someday I will find someone who is spritual and in touch with life like her suggestions made me describe as the man of my dreams. Can fairy tales come true?

I know, I know... the cover sounds way to "cheesy, self-help" ish. But the book has some really great insights and very motivating words... and not just on dating...on life in general. One of my favs!

About half way through and not really anything I haven't heard before. I does get you to think about what you really need as opposed to what you want and what you have to offer someone else.
