This is not your average fantasy story. It's from a very particular genre -- a dark fantasy tale full of strange names and stranger gods lurking somewhere in the howling chaos beyond the edge of the world. Readers unfamiliar with such tales may find the alien atmosphere estranging. Those who appreciate the genre, though, will be drawn in by this maddened landscape and greatly rewarded for their attention.

Either a long short story or a short novella, take your pick. Dark fantasy with an incredibly realistic edge to it, nothing fancy or sweet or unicorny and a shade darker than my preference, but a group of men fighting to survive on a difficult mission. The ending's a kicker, and I admit I had to think about it overnight. A good four-star read.
