This is my new favorite book.

These are lessons in binding from a seasoned and sympathetic hand at the art, ranging from supremely simple (how to make a book from a sugar packet in 10 seconds or fewer) to the breath-taking and complex (but not intimidatingly impossible!!) super-stitched Japanese-style beauties.

Carefully photographed, clearly labeled step-by-step how-to's walk even the most paper-challenged fumbler through the stages of each, and provide a spectrum of adv More...

This is my current favorite book about making books! It has a n engaging layout, interesting projects, and clear, easy-to-follow instructions. This book is the closest thing you can get to learning how to make books from a real live person. I always recommend it to my bookmaking classes.

Terrific layout, clean design.... But no new stuff. Unless the idea of using linoleum as cover board is "new." I was expecting more and exciting beyond Japanese stab-binding, accordion and dos-se-do. I was hoping for stuff like this and this, and this. Well, maybe not that last one. But isn't that music terrific!?

I felt that the material in this book was already available in books like Cover To Cover: Creative Techniques For Making Beautiful Books, Journals & Albums More...

Wow, how amazing is this book? Very impressed.

This book arrived in the mail for me today from Amazon, and instantly I was interested by the cardboard cover... I thought, here we go, this author is creative. I wonder what she has to say.

Neat illustrations have been used throughout, along with a wide and useful selection of ways to create your own book! Not all of these are tricky, either... some are as simple as folding and cutting. Towards the end of the book the author intro More...

this book was so-so. i was really hoping for more beginner info/theory/technique. i know a bit about making books and this book seems to present itself as a beginner manual, but i found some of the info to be lacking and was left with questions about technique, etc. given the size of the book i thought that there would also be more types of books demonstrated. iirc, there were 4. one thing that i did like was the author's tone of writing, she tried to make it personal and included a few nice ane More...

I bought this in my last year at University. In my second year on my Graphic Design Uni course, my lecturer showed me this book and I loved it so much I bought it a year later! There is some text which you can read, but you also have the option of just flicking through, looking at the images. A great reference to anyone who enjoys crafting handmade books!

This book is beautiful, a great introduction to the wonderful world of artist books. The only issue I have with it is that the step-by-step illustrations aren't super clear.. I haven't yet put it to the ultimate test by using it to learn a new binding technique, so I could potentially change my mind. Otherwise, it's great-- fun to read, gorgeous examples, and of course, aesthetically pleasing!

I've only made one thing out of this book, but I love it already. It's adorably laid out, simply put, and respectful of the world of book making -- to somebody anybody who loves books, this particular book is just the thing.

This is one of the best and most user friendly books I've find on non-paste book bindings... great illustrations and very well done. I have bookmaking experience, but this would work for newbies too. FUN FUN FUN!!!

Read it and looked carefully at each project, but I haven't tried any of them yet! I think I'll buy it and work through the projects with the kids as they get older. Very inspiring!

I saw this book at the Smithsonian, ordered it from Amazon and am looking forward to reading and learning from it. I'm having fun learning to make books from this book.
Easy read and the illustrations are clear and easy to follow.

AWESOME BOOK!

Joe and I cruised through it tonight: So many options from simple (yet elegant) folded books to elaborate cut out and stitched books. WHAT FUN! We can't WAIT to make out next book!!!

I liked the format of this book a lot. Not too much was new to me as I've read several books on making books, but it was presented in a fun, engaging manner.

Informative, adorable and so easy to read. One of the signatures came loose. You would think that a book on bookmaking would have better binding. Ha!
