Lezano provides a great overview to many concepts photography. This book is a good primer to basic equipment, filters, lighting techniques, exposure settings, and more. It is most useful for the digital photographer, but there is enough info on film photography to be helpful, too.
Lezano addresses issues from the studio to the outdoors, including macro photography, monochrome, portraits, nighttime, etc. If could only have one book on photography, this would be the one.
