Fine job of filling in a noteworthy part of the Sherlock Holmes back story. The insights into bare-knuckles boxing are especially good, as are the fight scenes. The mystery at the heart of the story is pretty solid too. There are a couple of slightly sour notes with dialogue (for example, Holmes would never have said "snuck"), but I didn't let that detract from my enjoyment.

This is the author who features in all those "Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective" books, and here he gets a whole volume to show what he can do - and what he can do is impressive.
