I loved the message of this book. I enjoyed Ms. Silver's "Anh's Anger" and this book took the lesson even further. I especially enjoyed learning the concept of Metta and how to practice it. I have done something similar in my own life when my three were little by repeating, "I love them" over and over to myself on the few occasions that they were trying my patience! It is nice to know that the concept has a history and methodology to it. I also liked the questions that the author poses at the en ...more

This was a bit of a strange story about a little girl who got annoyed at younger sister. She then read a story in which a boy met a frog who was his anger, and the frog taught him how to not let his anger hurt people.
I easily recognised the sibling arguments (I had plenty as a child), but I found the whole talking frog thing a little strange. I’m not even goin
This picture book follows the story of Lily who is given her grandfather's journal to read after getting frustrated with her younger sister. The journal mimmick's Lily's current situation, except between her grandfather Lanh and his sister Cam. Lanh is burdened with his Anger, represented by a frog like creature which hangs off his shoulders and brings his mood down. In practicing Metta, a wish for happiness of others, Lanh was able to once again feel affection towards Cam and come to a peace wi ...more

Lilly is having a picnic, but her little sister, Ruby, keeps ruining things. But just as Lilly starts to snap, her father hands her a special old book, a journal kept by his own grandfather. Lilly gets lost in the story of how her great-grandfather, Lanh, struggles with his own sis

Lili gets so mad when her little sister spoils a game of checkers while on a picnic with their dad. Then dad shows her a journal written by his grandfather who has the same frustrations about his little sister. A frog-like creature helps her great-grandfather gain peace through the practice of "metta", which consists of repeating wishes of kindness. I like that the story shows the anger and frustration that is part of life, and also suggest a way of overcoming it. I plan to add this to the Paren ...more
This was an excellent story within a story. Anger happens often, and often times we find ourselves angry at those we love the most, especially that younger sibling. This story gives insight on how to handle that anger and find peace within yourself. With great illustrations, young children will enjoy this story. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review!
This book has a great message for kids about how it is normal to experience anger and frustration, especially when jealous of a younger sibling, and that the best way to get rid of anger is to calm down and replace it with kindness and understanding. I enjoyed that this message was learned as something passed down from grandparent to child (in this case through an old journal). In Peace, Bugs, and Understanding anger is personified as a large frog that needs to be shrunk and put to sleep until h ...more
This is an interesting parable about anger with one's sibling and how to deal with it. The illustrations are lovely and the message is sweet. I received this book free to review from Netgalley.
This book is a beautiful Where are you? To teach mindfulness and forgiveness. Beautifully diverse characters.
