One of the first modern poets whose free-verse poetry I was exposed to, Linville's ability to get at a powerful image in a few short words has stuck with me since. Her poetry is at times short and ruthlessly clear, and other times beautifully enigmatic. A few of the poems are also inspired by real locations, particularly around Sacramento, so if you are familiar with the area, it adds a little something extra.

For anyone who has ever felt the bitter sting of a love gone wrong, or harbored regret
