Black Cone is a tale of a virus re-engineered as a bio-weapon that goes horribly wrong. The H5N1 virus, also known as bird or "Spanish" flu, caused the 1918 pandemic that killed over 50 million people worldwide. A "design team" led by Dr. Roy Jenkins has genetically modified the virus to infect people with a specific genetic profile; i.e. males between a certain age carrying specific DNA markers. There seems to be a lot of apocalyptic books bring spit out quite excessively. I don't mind the topic if it is a fast paced and somewhat realistic book. I have not read a book from this author before, but I was interested to see how he would handle the subject of mass destruction.

I did like the fact that the setting was almost believable being set in the year 2019. That is what grabbed my attention. I love reading these type books as long as it is written in the very near future. The story revo

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. "Black Cone" is a short story (115 pgs.) and encompasses a period of 41 years. A biological weapon similar to the Bird Flu can be programmed to affect only certain group according to their DNA. In this case, a general who helped develop the weapon steals a few ounces and goes rogue, using missiles to deploy and target males over the age of 16 to kill a group of terrorists in one of the "Stan" countries.
