HARD-HEARTED TEXAN

Rancher Jared Cameron was a mystery to everyone in Jacobsville, Texas ... and he liked it that way. Only sweet-natured bookseller Sara dared to intrude on his privacy --- informing the loner that a book on ogres might be more appropriate for a man of his qualities. Charmed by her audaciousness, Jared seduced the town's plain Jane. But their burgeoning rel...more

Yet another typical Diana Palmer book. It's got all her staple themes. I liked it for the most part. But I really do wish she would give some variation in her H/H's. Just because you want a hard-hearted, emotionally cut-off hero doesn't mean he has to act like a total bastard. And you can have an morally-upright heroine without having her always be a naive virgin. Even though I usually can enjoy one of her books, I just get frustrated because the relationships always come off the...more

19yo bookstore employee struggles with some memory & sensory issues due to a childhood brain injury. She gets repeatedly offended by new ranch-owner Hero's rude & arrogant attitude towards her. When they realize they have some things in common, an attraction develops & Hero believes heroine is experienced enough to handle it. But, when he realizes she's not what he expected, things change between them drastically.

How can I explain what it's like to read this book?...My closest analog...more

Rancher Jared Cameron is a mystery to most of the residents of Jacobsville, Texas, and he likes it that way. He travels with a bodyguard named Danzetta who, in addition to having various combat skills, is a very good cook. Jared meets bookseller Sara Dobbs, another of Palmer’s virginal heroines and they verbally spar several times. Sara has a lot more mettle than some of Palmer’s other characters, and I really liked her. Sara and Jared develop a bizarre arrangement by which they agree to call ea...more

Liked this one better than the previous DP I just read. Jared was quite a jerk in the beginning and a real charmer after (oh and here comes the sarcasm) sweetly making love to our innocent nineteen - that's right, she's nineteen - year old virgin heroine. However, after that scene we really don't see a return to that asshat male.

Jared did have some issues, like the death of his daughter that he deals with in this book. Sara also has her own issues after a tragic childhood. I'm not sure why DP th...more

Jared - rich, but not always rich - a soldier, a policeman, a security business, and now the oil business... and he's a target for kidnapping by a south american cartel who want the quick ransom money... he had married his friend, they had a child, they divorced when she fell in love... he loved his daughter, but spent too much time traveling... and then his daughter died in an accident - and he and his body guard Tony are in Jacobsville Texas, hiding out - and it is where he had buried his daug...more

Diana Palmer is the Queen of writing cowboy stories. There are some writers who write westerns and are climbing the ladder and I'm happy for them. but The Long tall Texans, I think right now will continue to be my favorites. lol

Jared Cameron is a loner but Sara Dobbs thinks he is an Ogre. Very interesting. This book introduces Tony the Dancer, who I hope gets his own book. I'm a fan, what can I say?

What? The ending is just like that?

No action with gun? No hero action? Buuuu... Disappointed....

And the most... This is for Jared... http://www.smileycodes.info

How can a man insult a woman like that?

This is the story of Sara Dobbs and Jacobsville newcomer Jared Cameron, two lonely people with tragedies in their pasts who are attracted to each other. Secondary character Tony Danzetta, aka Tony the Dancer, almost steals the story. I look forward to his story. We have narcoterrorists, jealousy, and danger. What more could you want?

Diana Palmer's books have long been a favorite quick read for me. Her heroes are always clueless Alpha males who think loud words and roughshod actions can win the d...more

Very nice romance, Diana Palmer has that magical ability that makes her readers come back for more

This is definitely a new kind of Diana Palmer. Same domineering male protagonist that is the Diana Palmer trademark, but surprising enough the main female character in this Diana Palmer did not lack for backbone. Yet somehow the romance or that heartwrenching feeling that you usually get while reading Diana Palmer was clearly lacking. If you are looking for a romance book to escape the lack of romance in your relationship, the tragic reality of this world or your own cynicism I would not suggest...more

I'll put the good stuff first. The cover to this book was really well-done. The heroine--orphaned, 19-years old, innocent, slightly brain-damaged by a past violent attack--was an appealing, well-drawn character, with unexpected depths. The hero--an executive hiding out because of terrorist threats to his life--seems sympathetic at first. Despite a galloping case of Series Related Infodump Syndrome, the book went along pretty well for the first half. THEN it gets rapetastic and awful. I warn you.

I read this in one night while suffering from insomnia. Not a bad book, as Silhouette books go, but I didn't care much for the main character Sara. She was FAR too young and naive acting for the book. It was annoying. She claims to be an 'innocent' but it took the male lead all of one evening of heavy kissing to get with her and then she blamed HIM! I don't know, this book wasn't too bad, but there were some stupid parts. Overall, a little guilty pleasure read. I've read worse.

Two words: date rape.

Now I'm all for rough, consensual sex but date rape really, really, REALLY turns me off. Add to that the obnoxiousness of the "hero" (can you spot the sarcasm there?) afterwards and this is one book I won't be getting warm fuzzy feelings for. In fact, I feel quite nauseous. I'm going to force myself to finish this because I hate leaving books unfinished but, yeah, date rape.

I enjoyed this book. Jared was awful at first than became a aweetheart, isnt all men like this. Sara is a caring, sweet but dont put up with crap kind of girl. She had a hard childhood and struggles financially but is happy with her life as a clerk at a book store , while Jarod has money running out of his ears. Typical jacobsville story (which I love that town) bad guys everywhere.

So just as a heads-up, our hero and heroine's first sex scene is, in fact, rape. Oh, and there's a dash of slut-shaming and victim-blaming afterward. And here I thought I had picked up a fairly conventional romance novel. My bad.

How this one got through the approval process at Silhouette, I'd really love to know.

I admire the book for being different from the Atypical romance novel however, I think the age difference bothers me most, it seems just a little to suspicious that things work out the way they do so easily. Plus I don't like some of the situations.
Christine
nothing special.. to the point banget ceritanya, mungkin karena itu novelnya jadi tipis. Suka, waktu semua karakter dari novel2 DP yg laen pada muncul di cerita ini...jadi seolah2 mereka memang hidup bener dan bukan sekedar tokoh dalam cerita :)
