I had never heard of this author, but while at work one day I was shelving and came across it and the cover made me turn it over to read the blurb. After reading not only that, but the quotes by other authors singing the story's praises I knew I had to give it a whirl. A sexy mystery with a funny court case based in South Florida with two lawyers who had the banter of a Hepburn and Tracy? Yes, please.

And let me say, that it delivered. This was such a fun, refreshing, impossible to put More...

The dynamic duo of Steve Solomon and Victoria Lord kicks off their courtroom adventures behind bars after being jailed for contempt of court for arguing during a hearing. It’s nothing new for Steve Solomon, whose unusual courtroom antics have landed him in the cooler before. Victoria Lord, however, a Yale-educated, ambitious, neophyte prosecutor, is mortified. She’s in danger not only of losing her job, but of derailing her career plans in the doing. Future judges don’t sit in jail for conte More...

#22/2011 ... For sheer entertainment value this book has it all: snarky humor, romantic shenanigans that both male and female readers will enjoy, a legal thriller twist, and a sub-plot with emotional depth. I'm surprised this has yet to be made into a Hollywood romantic comedy/legal thriller. Your typical bad boy beach bum lawyer screams Matthew McConaughey as the lead. Sure, some may criticize Solomon vs Lord because it wraps up everything so neatly and expertly, but if one is willing to take o More...

This is a new author to me and Solomon vs Lord is first of a series with these two characters. (I have already ordered the other three books from the library) If you like the Stephanie Plum series by Evanovich, I think you will like this as well. It is courtroom drama mixed with comedy. The main characters, Solomon (male) and Lord(female), are attorneys who are usually at odds with each other. The relationship reminded me of Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey movies. A lot of banter and mixed More...

Clever, witty, funny. Excellent courtroom comedy.

When Victoria Lord is fired from her state's attorney's office job, Steve Solomon, the counselor for the defense, takes her on as his partner. Immediately, the sparks fly (Victoria likes to go by the book, but Steve says "when the law doesn't work, work the law") and we just know -- despite the fact that they evidently can't stand each other, and that she is engaged to South Florida's avocado king -- that these two are going More...

Roasted quail marinara. That's what Steve Solomon's nephew called a road kill sparrow drenched in tomato sauce and microwaved for 60 minutes. Steve was late getting home and his nephew announced dinner was ready. It was easier to throw out the microwave rather than clean it. Now I think that's funny, but I have a bizarre sense of humor.

"When the law doesn't work, work the law." That's Steve's motto. His legal style could have been described as throwing a grenade into a s More...

he debut to the series it introduces us to all the main characters that pepper the rest of the series. In it Levine begins the creation of all his characters, sets the background history for the future books. It is not necessary to read this one first but it adds much to the enjoyment of the rest of the plots and characters.

Victoria Lord has never met a man more irritating. The normally put together lawyer sits in a jail cell with a contempt of court ruling all because of Steve Solomon, his taunting, and his ability to get her hopping mad. How dare he give her advice about how to become a better lawyer when he can't keep himself out of jail. A strange twist of fate, one very bizarre murder trial, one custody battle, and a new outlook will either destroy Victoria's career or give her the life she's always wanted. On More...

A published review of Solomon vs. Lord suggested that this book (now, a series) was a modern version of the old Tracey/Hepburn movie, Adam's Rib. In fact, my younger brother gave me a copy of one of these books with that blurb on the cover. I sneered at it, but decided that any attempt to emulate the electricity of that great acting team would be worth the effort to read. After all, I had even enjoyed the short-lived '70s era television show based on the classic movie.

Well, Solomon vs. More...

Another Winner by Paul Levine. From 2005 but what a great couple! Remember the TV show, "Moonlighting"? This has it all; Steve Solomon and Victoria Lord - they are funny, combative, and beginning a romantic relationship. First in the series, followed by "The Deep Blue Alibi", "Kill all the Lawyers" and "Trial & Error". They start out on oppositie side of the courtroom but end up together...in business and in bed! What a Great Find!

Audio 'read'. This is a Perry Mason's Peyton Place with a Carl Hiasson zany touch tossed in. It's a delightful listen.

The cast of characters are about as unique as you're going to run across. And, I defy you to laugh out loud fewer than five times while you're reading the book.

I particularly enjoyed the exchange between the murder judge and attorney Steve Solomon.

It's a well-written comic book. Lots of great dialog and comebacks. Lots of sex and sexy scenes. Lots of lawyer stuff. Totally unreal, but that is not the point. It's simply fun and doesn't require much thinking.

This was an excellent read; it's as if John Grisham and Janet Evanovich collaborated on a novel. Good plot, excellent characters, and excellent humour to go along with the courtroom drama. I'd highly recommend this.

I was amused by the title, but a case of too much caricature kept me from being won over by Solomon as he wooed opposing-prosecutor-turned-partner (oh, and she's engaged) Victoria Lord.

This is one of the most hiliarous book I've read in a long time. One review said it is a combination of Carl Hiaasen and John Grisham. Tom recommended it to me and I really enjoyed it. Great "light reading."
