I love Carly Phillips. She's one of my favorite authors, but for some reason, this book just did nothing for me.

It wasn't a bad story, I just couldn't get into it. Jake Lowell and Brianne Nelson were likable enough characters, the storyline was fast-paced and exciting, but maybe that was it. It was too exciting and not hot enough.

There was sexual tension galore between the two lead characters, but it didn't get acted upon until the story was at the halfway point.

This read more like an Intrigue o...more

Brianne Nelson, a physical therapist, meets a cop on leave Jake Lowell. With a little help from his siser, unbeknownest to him, they are thrown together for a steamy get to know you summer. Some of the issues they deal with I liked getting to understand because they made the characters a bit more real and not just a hook-up. Carly does it again for me. (It says #4 in the SIMPLY series if your interested in reading the SIMPLy sexy, sinful, and scandalous books first. Not neccessary in that order,...more

This was probably the cheesiest Carly Phillips book I have ever read! First of all, there was absolutely no build up in the story line whatsoever. The characters basically profess their love for eachother within the first page! I got sick of hearing their "feelings" on every minute. There was no chase--the author left little to the readers imagination so I did not find this book a hot read at all. Second, I read this book by audio and the narrator was the WORST ever! She could not act at all! Ho...more

Jake, a NYPD detective, was injured apprehending a drug dealer, partner was killed, and the drug dealer was released on a technicality. Jake was determined the drug dealer was going behind bars. Brianne’s parents were killed when she was 20 and she assumed the responsibility for her 9 year old brother. She worked during the day as a physical therapist and at night as a waitress to cover living expenses and keep her brother in private school. Jack saw Brianne while she was working as a waitress,...more

This book was fun to read and everytime I had a free moment I wanted to read more. Breaks at work, before bed and wheneer I got to work a little early I would sit and read before I had to punch in. It kept me entertained however it was somewhat redundant. The thoughts of the main characters wer repeated over and over again. It felt like the whole novel was what they thought about their relationship and what the ultimate outcome was going to be. It was very romantic and somewhat unrealistic. The...more

Since Brianne Nelson’s parents have died in a plane crash, she never had any anxiety attacks. As young as her twenty-age at the time, she’d had to pull herself together in order to raise her younger brother Marc. She wanted stability and steadfastness for her brother, things she never had had while growing up because their parents loved for their care-free life have overlooked the fact they had had a teenage daughter and a much younger son to take care of. But they were one of those that thrived...more

I knew before what genre this is (modern romance with juicy sex-scenes), so I knew what awaited me.

And although the story is mostly not very elaborate in these books, I had definitely expected more. The story was quite far-fetched, the 'feelings' the two main characters had toward each other when they see each other, touch each other or have sex with each other are way too unrealistic. Same goes for they sitting down and talking about the pros and cons of an affair, and finally agreeing on havin...more

Maybe I'm just not the supernatural romance kind of girl and I don't any fantastical constructs to make the story hot. In this contemporary, New York detective Jake Lowell has been drooling over the same waitress at his sister's favorite restaurant for months. When his sister goes out of town and asks Jake to apartment sit, he doesn't expect that same waitress to be sharing the apartment with him. When Jake's sister realized that Brianne Nelson's day job was as a physical therapist, she hired he...more

Physical therapist is surprised to find that her new live-in patient is the good-looking man she’s had her eye on for months at the restaurant where she moonlights as a waitress. Although injured narcotics-cop Hero is pleased about having heroine around daily, he’s having trouble masking his injury from her & his reasons for it. As their attraction quickly moves into an agreed-upon short-term affair, their feelings for each other get stronger but so does the danger following Hero & heroi...more

An ok read, but mostly predictable. One refreshing thing.. we didn't have to wait for the hero and heroine to play games.. "forgiving each other", or putting off the inevitable sex.

If I am being honest I would give this a 3 1/2 stars. I read romance books so I don't have to think, just be swept away. With this book I had to think & worry about the characters. It took a lot of energy. I was also distracted a lot during reading this book to that may have added to my not totally getting into it. I did enjoy the end. Even though it was totally unbelievable it caught me off guard since I was not expecting it.so it worked & I am glad I read it.

Physical therapist Brianne is still dealing with the fallout of losing her parents to their risk taking behavior. Detective Jake is still dealing with healing after being shot in a drug bust gone bad. Sparks fly before these two even formally meet, but Jake's last case puts them both in danger. Good story!

I had trouble getting into this book. Normally I devour Carly Phillips' books, but this one never grabbed me the way I was expecting. I am not saying that it was bad, it most definitely was not bad, it just lacked something. And while it was not amazing it was enjoyable.

I swear loving this book as much as I did had nothing to do with the heroine sharing a first name with me! Okay, maybe it did a little bit. It really is a great read for fans of modern-heterosexual romances though.

Not my favorite of the series - didn't even seem to be connected. But I will read the last of the series once I get it from the library - from what I can tell it's connected by previous characters.

Extremely well written. I am forever a Carly Phillips fan. Just the right mixture of thought, fantasy, and promise in her writing. I gave her a 4.5 star.....

I was skeptical about this one but I'm on a Carly Phillips binge so I read it. And fell in love. True to form, it was an amazing ride.

Good summer fun, summer fling book. Has many twists and turns for a mystifying read.

Not enough humor, considering it's a Carly Phillips book. Still fun though!
