This book more than any other recast my perception of the economic competence of African Americans sparking both pride and regret for an era seemingly gone. It also alerted me to a downside of our reaction of desegregation. The insights about the pursuit of political power before economic power and how it impacts the plight and development of groups was also interesting. .
