EVANGELINE LOGAN WANTS a kiss. A spectacular, heart-stopping, life changing kiss. Somehow The Crimson Kiss (a romance novel she’s become obsessed with) and Four Steps to Living Your Fantasy (a self-help book she’s reading) have fused in Evangeline’s mind and sent her on a quest for a kiss. But the path to perfection is paved with many bad kisses—the smash mouth, the ear li...more

Wendelin Van Draanen is the author of one of my favorite books ever, Flipped. I love Flipped -- I have read several times and pushed to several people and even cried while watching the movie. I never really got around to reading the author's other works, until I got it for a gift. It took me another year to read it (just like my other books in my TBR, heh), and I thought it would be the right book to cleanse my palate over reading something a little bit more serious...more

I couldn't even finish this book. I got less than halfway through and just gave up.
First of all, the girl was the most stupid and irritating character I've ever had the misfortune of reading about. She goes around kissing guys at random because she wants a 'crimson kiss.' What. The. Heck. No one is that stupid in real life. You don't just do that. Not even whores work that fast. And is she an idiot? What does she think made the romance novel's kiss a 'crimson kiss'? Two good kissers? Ha. What an...more

This chicklit title can't decide whether it wants to be an outrageous comedy like the Louise Rennison "Georgia Nicholson" series, or be a more serious story about divorce, communication and relationships. It's not bad, but it's not that good, either.
Evangeline's parents are separated, and so she tries to help her mom out as much as she can with the housework. While vacuuming her mom's room, she finds a stash of cheesy romances, including one called The Crimson Kiss. She finds herself captivated...more

Van Draanen, Wendelin. 2008. Confessions of A Serial Kisser.

I'm on the fence with Confessions of A Serial Kisser. I loved the opening chapters where we are introduced to the narrator, Evangeline, and catch a glimpse of the premise. A young teen girl, who discovers, while cleaning, her mother's stash of trashy, smutty romance books. Out of pure curiosity and with a bit of disdain, she starts looking at them. She starts by reading the blurbs, then progresses to reading random passages. But before...more

Evangeline is in search of the perfect kiss. She’ll stop at nothing to find a kiss like the one in A Crimson Kiss, the romance novel she found hidden under her mom’s bed. But finding that life-changing kiss proves to be more difficult than she had anticipated. Lots of boys seem to have potential but when tested are really “missers”, ear lickers, or fish-lipped kissers. She wonders if any of her kisses will ever rival Delilah and Grayson’s in A Crimson Kiss.

Evangeline gets a bad reputation for he...more

Didn't like this book. I can never resist a good chick-lit but this book was just immature. I read a chapter, 2 chapters, 3 chapters... however many chapters up until her first kiss. It moved too fast! And the chance that she can all the sudden do a transformation from not to hot is incredibly stupid. It doesn't take a day, it takes at least a week to adjust to your hair, a week to perfect your make up. It took I believe overnight for E (that's her nickname from me. Too lazy to spell out the res...more

CONFESSIONS OF A SERIAL KISSER is just the kind of light and sweet read that I want: plenty of straightforward cuteness without the melodrama and inanity. It’s a great combination of confectionary-like escapism with relatable realism.

Evangeline’s character, while seemingly simple (she wants that feeling of belonging and safety that characters in her romance novels have), is actually delightful well-rounded. Despite her rather successful attempts to be a gutsy and attention-grabbing girl, readers...more

I love the way Wendelin Van Draanen captures the adolescent voice--she manages to have this goofball sense of humor that coincides with confidence while still being immature. So basically, your average teenager. But I have to admit, I feel like she succeeds more when she skews younger. Sammy Keyes is her magnum opus--a tough female character that manages to be vulnerable. At seventeen years old, Evangeline, the heroine of Confessions, feels a little too old for Van Draanen's wheelhouse.

So far, the chapters are irritatingly short. I don't know why the author feels the need to create a new chapter for every conversation, train of thought, or miniscule event; but it's aggravating and unnecessary.

As far as my thoughts of the main character are concerned, she's coming off to me as something resembling a slut. There's nothing wrong with wanting a kiss to be special or fantastic. But that doesn't excuse the fact that all she's really doing is flirting with and kissing random guys she...more

Evangeline is a 16 year old in search of the perfect kiss. Her efforts to renew her self image are fueled by a self help book found among her mother's things and a romance novel filled with unrealistic goals. Like most of us, Evangeline falls in love with the idea from the romance novel that one perfect kiss is what she needs to start new.

The chemistry in this book seems just about right for teens. The descriptions of each kiss encounter were a delight to read. I was disappointed with the lack o...more

I got all the way through this book before I realized it was by Wendelin van Draanen. (It was a Kindle version, so it's not like I saw the cover much.) She is pretty much amazing, that's all I have to say. I've read a couple other books of hers, Flipped and Swear to Howdy, which are both very funny, but perhaps for younger audiences. This one is about a girl who just loses it a little bit and turns into the school serial kisser nearly overnight. Note to self: steamy romance novels are dangerous...more

I've learned a lot of things from reading.
I didn't realize this specifically from this book, but it did reinforce my beliefs—
Any book that has a title like this: "Confessions of a Fill-in-the-Blank" is going to be hilarious.
In general, the main character is a girl living with her mom or some other female relative. (Example? Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet. Confessions of a Boyfriend Stealer. You catch my drift)
She's often the narrator. Sometimes, it's in...more

Ever since Evangeline found her mother's secret stash of trashy romance books, she's wanted something called a Crimson Kiss, sure that it's going to light fireworks and make her the happiest creature on Earth. That's when she gives herself a haircut, puts on some make-up, and becomes a serial kisser.

I don't think I'm what the book is initially trying to target. Pre-teens and fourteen year olds will enjoy this, but not anyone else. This was outright ridiculous. I couldn't identify with Evangelin...more

I think parts of this book were really strong, and parts of it were not. I really liked the main character, Evangeline. I felt like her responses were just right on the money, and for that I loved the book. I feel like too often writers are out of sync with teens, but this author really wrote her teen character well. If I was in her situation, especially with her parents, I would have acted the same way!

I didn't always get the situations, though. I like I don't understand how she could have just...more

I Love this Book because it had me luaghing and wanting to read more.

I got a kick out of this book. It was funny and cute. The character was quirky, and charismatic. It shows experiences that all of us have with our first kisses, and a few times I was having trips down memory lane.

One of the things that made me laugh in this book was they way the boys reacted to her random kisses. Aren't boys supposed to be all macho and tough? I guess not. (:.

One of my only problems with this book was that the serious issues of divorce and mistrust did not go so well with the hu...more

At first when I started this book I thought it was really dumb and un-realistic, but then in the end it had a powerful lesson to teach. It is about a girl who wants to find the perfect kiss, so she goes around kissing all these random dudes to see if he will be her perfect kisser. It's really strange of her because she kinda just goes up to random people on the sidewalk and kisses them. Then a lot of people (myself included) starting thinking she was a slut or something. But then in the end she...more

As the person who told me about this book says "It's very pink". definitely a girl book, in other words. There are a few rare boys who would read it, but not many.
Evangeline is cleaning the house when she discovers her mothers stash of bodice ripper romance novels. She actually reads one of them, once she gets past her initial astonishment. The description of the perfect kiss that happens in the story catches her attention and she begins her own quest to find the perfect kiss. She starts kissing...more

You may hear the words serial killer many times before, but how many times have you heard of, a serial kisser? It's certainly my first time. In this story, Evangeline, the protagonist, was inspired by a book, name "The Crimson Kiss", to find a crimson kisser. So she goes around her high school, looking for the perfect lips to lock with. Unfortunately, instead of finding someone who can give a crimson kiss, she came upon guys who gives sloppy, breath-stinking kisses and (Uh-Oh!)an ear licker.

Confessions of A Serial Kisser is one of the funniest book I have ever read. And that’s saying a lot since I’ve read tons of books which I’m sure you guys all know. :)

What I loved about Confessions of A Serial Kisser was the hilarity of the plot. It was entertaining and definitely kept me engrossed in Evangeline’s story. It was interesting to see how Evangeline got her “inspiration” from a romance novel, The Crimson Kiss, and how she went about in obtaining that “crimson kiss.” Her plan, though...more

More of a 2.5 actually...

I liked the beginning, found myself flat out laughing at some points. I was wary coming into the book with such a title, and I guess I shouldn't have been surprised to encounter such a main character.

I thought the change of tone was necessary but really a little disappointing. Some things were too convenient - like the guitar thing, mentioned by some other reviewers. I think the problem was that I ended up not liking Evangeline much, so...put the rating down to a subject...more

This books is about Evangeline, a high school student, who after finding a romance novel under her mothers bed, dreams about the perfect kiss. Which she calls a crimson kiss. She embarks on a journey trying to have that perfect kiss. To do this she kisses almost every boy in her grade to see who can give her a crimson kiss. On this journey she struggles with her best friend and family issues, while realizing the perfect kiss isn't so perfect after all.

I chose to read this book because my friend...more

I thought this was a fun mostly clean (only one minor swear word used twice) Y/A Chic-lit with a combination of comedy and the more serious issue of divorce. I didn't might the teetering back and forth between the two. I felt the writing was good. The main character, though not extremely deep, brought the story along well. I appreciated the fact that she evolved enough to realize her mistakes. Too many of the Y?A's I've been reading are so depressing and the character blah...blah...blah, whine.....more

Moral of the story....don't go around kissing strangers becasue in High School you will be thought of as a slut. Or something like that.

Actually I think letting yourself be free enough to try and find your passion or your dreams is a really cool thing. Most of us, myself included, don't allow ourselves to open up to the possibility of the possibility. We instead wonder what if?

That's what I need to do, like Nike says, Just do it. Stop worrying and wondering what if and just do it.

And that's wh...more

This book was so funny. The main character finds romance novels underneath her mother's bed (who is going through a divorce), and falls in love with one called"A Crimson Kiss". She decides that she wants her own crimson kiss and goes in pursuit of it. Pretty soon word of her kissing habits gets around school, and she starts to get a reputation. Through a combination of stupid choices she makes her best friend incredibly mad at her, and in pursuit of her friend's forgiveness, realizes that maybe...more

Conessions of a Serial Kisser is a great book for girls. Its funny, romantic and has some drama in it. Once you start reading it you'll find that you just HAVE to keep reading on. It's defiantly one of those books you get hooked to. Confessions of a Serial Kisser isn't part of a series but the author- Wendelin Van Draanen- has written some other great books like Flipped, and Runaway. What made me like this book was that the main character- Evangeline- really expresses her feelings and thoughts i...more
