I'll admit it. I get a little bit of a one track mind when it comes to books. If there is so much of a whiff of a relationship forming, I fixate on it and build up all of my anticipation around it. I stay true-blue to my couple. 3rd parties are the enemy. There is no indecision or uncertainty... just relationship-worshipping in its purest sense. Until I started this damn series. Never have I felt so torn... so fickle... about who I want a heroine to end up with. I've got to give credit whe

This is #2 in the Cassandra Palmer series. Cassandra has inherited clairvoyance from her mother and the ability to talk to ghosts from her father (both deceased). In the last book, she learned that she was destined to become Pythia, the time-traveling chief clairvoyant and protector of the timeline. Cassandra's parents were murdered when she was young and she was raised by vampires, so she is fairly well versed in supernatural politics. In this book, she has escaped all the various factions tryi

CLAIMED BY SHADOW was even better than the first book in the Cassandra Palmer Series, Touch of Frost. I am amazed how each book in this series exceeds my expectations.
CLAIMED BY SHADOW was a bit different from Touch the Dark in my opnion. We are not constantly surround by those wicked hot vampires. Even though we weren't I love it all the same because we are constantly around hot tempered mage, Pritkin.
Okay. He has a hot temper but I love that hot temper of his. To be ho More...

Whew. Poor Cassie - that girl needs a nap more than anyone I've ever met! I read a review on Chance's web site that said something along the lines of this series sort of poking fun at the genre a little bit, and I think that's true. There is so much non-stop action in these books it gets a little ridiculous. But man is it fun!

Cassie Palmer is back at Dante´s trying to find out Tony´s and Myra´s hiding place. She wants to stop the evil sybil before she can alter the timeline by killing her protector the master vampire Mircea. Incidentally she learns from Casanova an incubus (how fitting) who is in charge of the casino for the moment that Mircea has placed a "geis" (a kind of spell) on her when she was a child to protect her. But his geis has some unwanted side-effects...

Sometimes, I just don't feel like writing a review because I just want to get back to the reading. But here goes. I liked this book, believe the hype- the series does get better. It was amazing how much better the flow of the story was this time. I feel satisfied and vindicated, (at least for now) because despite the narrator's (Cassie's) feelings about characters, my instincts seem to have been correct. My only concern is the whole time travel thing, just because time lines start to get c

Excellent book. It has been a while since I have read a 'so good you can not put it down' book, but this one qualified!!
This book takes up right where the first, 'Touch the Dark' left off. We follow Cassie on an action filled adventure in her attempt to avoid becoming the new Pythia. The book starts off with breathtaking action and never lets up, right to the ending.

This one was wild! Lots of plot twists and turns, time travel and tension. Chance did a clever job of slipping seamingly trivial details into casual scenes only to have them come back to bite you on the butt later. Wow! Still a little more erotic than I'm used to reading........that's okay though. There's a another in the series and opportunites for all sorts of spin-offs. Cassie's still trying to hunt down Tony, the evil vampire, and I think I'm going to have to get some kind of a BIG TOUGH

This book is the second in the series (following Touch the Dark) and in my opinion was absolutely amazing. It's in the first person perspective which brings out the best of Karen Chance's humor and wit. The vampires, particularly my personal fave, Mircea, are witty, sexy and intriguing. Cassandra Palmer is the main character and portrays a strong, clever, kick-ass and very relatable kind of girl. I would definitely recommend this book though I must warn that there are a few sketchy scenes.

Just about every mystical creature that you could possibly think of, has been mentioned at least once in this story. This makes for a very large and interesting world. At times however, Chance gets downright ridiculous in her choices. In the last book, we were introduced to Marlow, Rasputin, Baby face Nelson, Jack the Ripper and the famed artist Raphael as vampires. It's enough to make one wonder if Chance believes that any historical figure was human. To some degree, one must suspend belief

I'm on a trip down memory lane right now. Having tried unsuccessfully to get into the popular Anita Blake series recently, I've returned to a staunch favourite, Cassie Palmer by Karen Chance.
I gave book one in this series, Touch The Dark, a 10/10 on my NBRS scale, that is perhaps only the second time I have given a book that rating, but unfortunately, Claimed by Shadow just falls shy.

The first third of Claimed by Shadow was very slow moving, Cassie went to question Cassanova about Tony, and Pritkin came along followed by a circle of mages, the first third of the book is about the hour following this with Cassie trying to escape everyone and find Tony. Thankfully Cassanova finally removes her (and Pritkin), and Cassie agrees to listen to Pritkin and why he had followed her. Eventually they arrive at an agreement, and since Pritkin is after Myra, the pair collaborate.

I like this series because it is very well written, has a great plot line, and Karen Chance describes everything really good. Sometimes in a series it takes 2-3 books for you to 'get into the world' but even the first book felt more like book two or three in a series thanks to all the detailed explanations.
However, I also have some problems with this series: Like I said, I love all the detailed explanations but Karen Chance tends to go into them right in the middle of action scenes whi More...

I really enjoyed this volume. After the first book gets all of the introductions out of the way and gets you familiar with the world of Cassie Palmer, the second doesn't have to worry about any of that and is much more enjoyable for it. I'd say, if you read the first book and weren't really impressed, at least read to the second one and give the series a real chance. This book was a fast-paced, action-packed read. It was exciting, intriguing, and altogether enjoyable. The characters were, than

This is the sequel to Touch the Dark, and it takes the storyline in a completely different direction than I expected. The vampires don't play quite as prominent a role; the story focuses on Cassie interacting with the battle mages, though the vampires are hovering around the edges. IMO, there's not enough Mircea for my taste, heh. However, Cassie is still very likable without being obnoxiously spunky, and this book added some nice character development all around.

This book was utterly amazing. A total 360 degrees from the last novel. I give "Claimed By Shadow" by Karen Chance a 5/5 stars.
Reservations on "Touch the Dark":
I need to start out by explaining that I truly struggled with the first book, "Touch the Dark." I found the novel to be heavily descriptive and very confusing at times. I also felt that, though there was action, the majority of the book took place in a living room setting (where the More...

I was really looking forward to this book after reading the author's debut, "Touch the Dark." However, I found it somewhat disappointing. This was especially apparent when I went to read it last week and realized I already had! I forgot I had read this one and needed to start book 3. This rarely happens as I have a very good memory for books. I quickly scanned through the book again to familiarize myself with the story and realized why I didn't remember it. Despite the length, not much

My ratings system is as follows. One star is GOOD. The book is entertaining, easy to read and you don't want to stop reading because something about the book is compelling you not to. Two stars is GREAT! This time the story is not only entertaining, but highly creative, unique, easy to read and hard to put down. Three stars is EXCELLENT. Here the book has all aspects of one and two stars, but now the book is thought and emotionally provoking. Four is AWESOME. This is the read that is not onl

The Pythia is the earth's most powerful clairvoyant, but it is the power of the title that chooses the heir. Although Cassandra Palmer's mentor was out of the running for the position because she did something horrific, the vampire Mercia believed Cassandra would be the one. Mercia places a geas on his ward to drive men away so that the young woman can be the Pythia since the ritual needs a virgin when it starts and someone Mercia chooses to complete the power by making love

Claimed By Shadow was a vast improvement over Touch The Dark. The pacing and action still moved at a breakneck crazy pace, more so than book 1, but I enjoyed this, mainly because Chance did not seem so focused on torturing readers with excessive inner monlogues, explanations, and world-building info dumps. I liked Cassie in this book and, as long as I not getting the books mixed up in my head (I knew I should have reviewed these right after reading each), I think I fell for Cassie when the kids

RATING: barely 3 stars.
Okay this series just isn't doing it for me (lol). No really. The author sets a plotline at the beginning and then instead of a linear story we get huge conversations/ info-dump moments interlaced with fast and furious action just as if the author remembered suddenly that ah! I have a story to get to, can't waste any more time with chitchat. Plus all the action seems kind of meaningless because most of the times it doesn't even advance the story that much (SPOI More...

I liked this one more than the last one, maybe because she doesn't spend the whole book introducing the characters and describing all the politics etc. This one is much more about Cassie and the characters we've already met so there's a lot more plot to explore rather than pretense. The story takes place right after the last one with Cassie on the run from the Senate and the Circle and just about everyone else. She's still trying to find Tony and wants to stop Myra from killing her, but once aga

This series is more UF than I've ever read before but I really like Cassie Palmer, her heart always leads even if she doesn't quite know what she's doing. Her many friends are great too. The seemingly non stop action is a lot of fun and keeps you reading. This second book was better than the first, probably because I was familiar with the world this time around

This book picks up where the last one left off with Cassie diving head first into a paranormal world of action, adventure and some (though not nearly enough) vampire lovin’. The author introduces us to a few new interesting characters too.

Enjoyed this one more than the first. Felt like the pacing worked out a little better and there wasn't quite as much information being crammed into my head. Part of that is probably due to the established characters. There were really only two or three new people added into the mix.
Fun read and looking forward to the next book!
