Danger turns her on.
Desire turns her dangerous...

Riley Jenson hunts evildoers—and does it with a style all her own. With vamp blood coursing her through her veins, and a werewolf’s uncanny instinct for danger, Riley wears snakeskin stilettos and pure, in-your-face attitude when she plunges into her latest case: hunting down a killer whose victims are high-society strumpets...more

In this Guardian book, the 6th in the series, Riley is juggling 2 cases. Although I liked the book, it got kind of confusing at times. Another aspect that I and questioning is the Emo-Vamp and how her story really tied into the whole book. It seemed very focused towards the beginning and middle of the book on this vamp and her flock or whatever those she made are called. There was really no closure...or really any relevance to the overall story line. Maybe she will make an appearance in future i...more

Riley's juggling two cases: a killer who targets high-flying women and the men they date; and another who leaves mutilated bodies - and their spirits, which Riley alone can hear. It's another strange new development in her genes that has her spooked, but she's not about to let that stop her from hunting these supernatural killers down.

The double plot gets a bit confusing in this one - there were several instances where the author neglected to mention something that would help her readers follow...more

Another lovely book in the series. I was so glad we got Quinn back in this book. I like that him and Riley are starting afresh and finally dating like a real couple. I was very scared for Rhoan. The killer that went after Liander was really crazy and I'm glad he made it through because Rhoan won't have survived and then Riley won't have either. It's interesting to see how all their lives are intertwining and how their little family is expanding. I liked the cases Riley worked in this book. The c...more

Oh my gosh is was so good. This book reminded me how fast I can read a nearly 400 page book. Usually it takes me a week, not 2 maybe 3 days. I just didn't want to put it down.

Sometimes I feel like Arthur is upping the anti on Riley. Making things harder, more diabolical. But really I think it felt that way because while the crimes she investigates in this book are horrifying they aren't as bad as the last book, but you wouldn't know by reading it. Everything just flows. She's got to find a guy w...more

The previous installment of the Riley Jensen series was a big let down. After reading some of the reviews for this book I thought I was in for more of the same. However, the darkest kiss was very enjoyable. The series has definitely changed though. Riley has decided to settle down and not have sex with every male she comes across. She has chosen to give Quinn a chance, but she is not ready to cut out other men completely, and still believes a wolf is her soul mate. There is also a bit of progres...more

With vamp blood coursing her through her veins, and a werewolf's uncanny instinct for danger, Riley wears snakeskin stilettos and pure, in-your-face attitude when she plunges into her latest case: Hunting down a killer whose victims are high-society strumpets—and the rich and powerful men they've dated.

But for Riley, the case takes a chilling turn when a second killer starts trailing mutilated bodies of his own: a crazed young...more

I am going to sound more critical about the book than I have been about any other book in the Riley Jensen Guardian Series, even though I immensely enjoyed this installment as well. I don’t know if I was the only one, but I kept getting the two “murder lines” mixed up. I understand that in the end, there were supposed to overlap, but I feel like there wasn’t a good separation of the two from the get go and it made the story a little jumbled and very confusing. Since that was the worst part of th...more

So, the last instalment in this series was a let-down. Not only was the story itself hard-going and a little below par, but Riley was down to one partner and the sex scenes which I had lamented in the past, but now missed, were non-existent.

This time sex is still basically non-existent, (you'd think I'd be happy after all the sex-scene bashing I have done in the past with this series), but the story itself was back on target. Adventurous, thrilling, page-turning and dark. Keri Arthur may have go...more

THE DARKEST KISS by Keri Arthur is extraordinary! Mischief, mayhem and good old fashioned passion make this a story to die for. I love Riley. I really enjoy the fact that she can never quite make up her mind when it comes to all her suitors. She also doesn’t make it a point to just sleep with all of them either. She's a good girl, with good morals, working in a hard job. Quinn is by far my most favorite of Riley's men. He's wickedly sexy, dominating and so hot your teeth will sweat. The passion...more

As I hoped, this book was much better than the last, though still not devoid of the little writing hiccups. I'm beginning to think that Arthur just can't help herself. There was still repetition of silly things ("I killed a dark god, of course I can kill you" x20), but there was much less of it this time.

My problem with this book was the plot. It didn't make sense. Why would a murderer kill his first victims and then only kidnap the rest? Because one of the rest is important to the main charact...more

Post listen review: You know how people say about someone that doesn't read much that it's good if they read anything? Like, it's a trashy romance but hey at least she's reading? That addage does not apply here. If you see someone reading this book, rip it out of their hands and take them by force to watch fourteen hours of cats playing piano on youtube instead. It will be a much more valuable use of their time.

I hated this in the first track. So here goes, this book is about a half werewolf, h...more

This installment is much more of a crime/mystery than a "Riley" sex romp. She's pretty much abstained from sex, except during the moon heat. I think Kellan's breakup from the previous book, really broke her heart and she's more leary of giving herself to someone both intimately and emotionally. As a Guardian, Riley finds herself trying to solve 2 serial killer cases, which were pretty interesting because one involves Liander, Rhoan's soul mate. It's all just sort of ho-hum, UNTIL *que m...more

The Riley Jeson series is getting out of control! Not her best!

While so far all the books have been great but i'm now at the point where I think it's all getting too far fetched! Yes, I know it's fantasy/fiction but clearly Arthur's running out of believable material. A house cat that can shift in to human form & change size? Or a ghost vampire that can walk in daylight & disappear? C'mon... I don't even mind the emo Vampire thing-it's better than the rediculous characters that she came...more

I haven't read Embraced by Darkness (book 5), but I needed my Riley fix and it was sitting on my dresser taunting me. I started it around 10:30 PM. That was my mistake. I know Keri Arthur is one of those authors whose books I cannot put down, no matter how determined I am, but the lure was too great.

This book had the fewest sex scenes, but was the most emotional and Riley seemed the most human. The relationship between Quinn and Riley became something very special and the ending was perfect. Ho...more

Riley has been down in the dumps ever since Kellen dumped her. And for once she has decided she's not going to date or even have sex except for the moon heat. I was disappointed by this. I enjoyed reading about her crazy adventures, since they've been tone down since the first book. At one point I just wanted to yell at Riley and tell her get over it. Especially once she realized there was no way he's her soul mate. Just ge...more

I was given this book by my mother... okay I'll admit I heisted it because I saw the word vampire on it and said it was mine! She didn't seem to mind. ;)

Mind you I've never read a Keri Arthur book nor am I familiar with this series. What a surprise it was to find out that the main character has all this other stuff going on. I think even though I hadn't read the other books prior to this one, I still had a good sense of what was going on and what happened to Riley. Granted when she talked about...more

It's hard to like a book when you don't really like the main character: Riley Jenson. All she seems to do (from the 1st book all the way through the 4th book - Dangerous Games) is complain, complain, and COMPLAIN about how she doesn't want to be a Guardian, and how she thinks her lover Quinn is too narrow-minded when he doesn't want her to have sex indiscrimmiantly. "Oh, boo-hoo, my boyfriend doens't want me to have sex with other men!" And the sex scenes are not even that good: there's no real...more

This is the sixth book in the Urban Fantasy Riley Jenson Guardian Series. This book has everything lovers of this genre want - intrigue, fights, romance & booty calls, some "oh no! " moments, werewolves, vampires (even two new varieties of vamps) and a bakeneko. What's a bakeneko? Sorry, you'll have to read the book to find out. There is even this really sensual shower scene. Riley always manages to get her groove on in the most interesting places and ways.

Shadow, who was introduced in book...more

Riley is a likeable character, although the lusting after every male she meets who isn't gay does get old. She's a bit of a Mary Sue in that every male (again, who isn't gay) wants to sleep with her. And she can eat anything she wants and not worry about gaining weight.

I do read these for the steamy sex scenes and was disappointed that there was only one in this book, but it's nice to see her starting to think about settling down with one man.

Minor quibble - in every single physical fight that...more

I find it nice to come back to reading this series. Getting back in with the characters. I found this particular entry to flow very nicely. The two mysteries (which seem to now be a required) fit very nicely together. I would have to say they worked together nicer than the last two books where one crime would end way too soon and the other would go on for too long. There was enough time spent on both of them, and I didn't get confused about which was which. They were both definitely defined.

Worst book of the series so far! Sorry Riley (and Keri) but this book kinda sucked - and that's an adjective that I don't use lightly ;) My first complaint is about the type of killers that appear in Riley's world. It bugs me that there are no rules or limits. Anyone can be absolutely anything and the talents they can possess are limitless. A vamp ghost who can travel in the daylight while invisible and cannot be killed until night fall? Did I get that right? Or a soul-sucking, flesh-eating cat...more

It was OK. I found following two cases confusing at times & actually not that interesting! I've been trying to finish the last 50 pages for a few nights & that is sooo unlike me I normally can't put a back down by this point! I think the romance was missing in this book & I'm kind of waiting for her to fun her soul mate now do she can stop harping on about it! Also found the numerous coffee (with or without hazelnut) referenced irritating when they appeared sooo often I mean I get it...more

Would have given it four stars, but the pacing was kind of off (this is the second book in a row where Riley has been investigating two cases at once that are entirely unrelated, and having one get neatly wrapped up with still a lot of book to go just feels strange) and I am really wary of the developments between Riley and Quinn. I really liked Quinn in the first book, but the next few books basically trashed my opinion of him. Now all of a sudden he's supposed to be a changed man, learned the...more

Great again! Riley is growing up and so is Ms. Arthur's writing. I'm puzzled by how much better this series is than her newest book (Destiny Kills), but I gather that the intended audience is different. Destiny is more of a paranormal romance and the Riley series is more urban. There is more to the plots, greater character development and the romance isn't love-at-first-sight-engaged-within-a-week-of-meeting. I am looking forward to trying some of her other books, but I'm betting that the Riley...more
