I really love John Hegley.

He is open to the criticism that his poetry is too simplistic, or that his subjects (on the surface, in this book anyway, dogs and glasses) are facile, but really - that's just not true.

one of my favourite poems of all time is in this volume, and yeah - some of his couplets have bad rhyming puns, but seriously - i challenge anyone to read this and not come out seeing life a little differently.

it's wonderful, heartwarming, serious, and yes - very, very funny stuff.
