Weird and wild and wacky and surpassingly imaginative.

DeForge keeps getting better and better. It opens with the title piece, a short one, "Lost in the Woods for Days," "Me as a Baby," featuring the adventures of Aunt Cherrelle trying to get a clarinet case back for her niece from some crazy alien mafia, is the centerpiece, and it's pretty funny. "Dogs of Canada" is also funny. The last page has some strips. But this issue reveals him getting better formally and narratively. And staying weird and sophomoric on some basic level.

I laughed my ass off. One of the best issues yet, for sure.

It's too easy to just automatically five-star anything by Deforge, but the annual issue of Lose is always something special. #6 would be one of my favorite comics of 2014 if all it had consisted of was the back cover, the print release of the brilliant "Fetishes" comic that I had the privilege to see him read live on a book tour with Simon Hanselmann.

"Me As a Baby" was the longest story (41 pages!) in this issue, and I just couldn't get into it. Art-wise, or story-wise. But I loved "Lost In the Woods For Days" (2 pages), and "Dogs of Canada" (4 pages).

I love Michael DeForge, his world is so surreal and child-like, in imagination only. "Me As A Baby", the main bit, is hilarious and amazing. Just buy it. Okay. Just do it. You won't regret it.

This is my yearly dose of weird. Michael Deforge is a consistently great storyteller that approachs the strange with unquieting familiarity.
