This is heavy reading in the sense that the tone is sober, the pace slow and the chapters are arranged with no particular rhyme or reason.

In some chapters Marazziti delivers engaging personal stories of the victims and former death penalty advocates- whose closeness to actual executions and death row inmates had caused an irreversible change on their view on life and the taking of it.
