Thoroughly enjoyed this book...might give it another read since I had to stop midway to attend to other things. If you like space, adventure, action and a smidgen of romance, you'll love this. Thanks T.M. Hunter...cannot wait for your next in the series.

Although a sequel to Heroes Die Young, the short novel Friends In Deed can be read as a stand alone adventure. It is set in the Aston West universe and features a reluctant space pirate hoodwinked into carrying out one last deed with some former "friends" that he'd just as soon forget. The protagonist's first person voice is wry and witty, but isn't overdone. We get to know Aston's back story a bit and can sympathize with his predicament, struggles, and decisions. Good story telling mixed with a ...more

When Aston West gets entangled with fellow escaped convicts, the twins Elijah and Lars, he knows that not a lot can go right. And, well, such is certainly the case. Especially when he's forced to return to Lycus IV, the Gohr prison world they escaped from together, in order to rescue a woman. From there things just get worse, and the question is, will Aston be able to leave the Brotherhood run by the twins - not that he really joins it in the first place?

Friends in Deed is very readable, and one

The book starts out as a lot of bad coincidences involving our hero and then things get decidedly worse. This is where the story begins to pickup and take off. The characters are developed enough so that each individual character has great interplay with another character. The action is not constantly in your face, but it's enough to keep you satisfied. There's romance thrown into the mix, with a fair amount of revenge to complete the story with a cliff hanger. It is a very good book/story to ...more

Todd and Aston have done it again. 'Friends in Deed' is another in the line of adventures of my favorite space salvage agent - excuse me, I meant 'pirate'. Stuck between a rock and a hard place once again, Aston must use all his cunning and more than a little in the way of self-preservation to pull off an escape... and learn a little something about himself he might like to have never known.

A good space opera

if you enjoy a good space opera this is worth your time. this is the 2nd Aston west story I've read and I recommend it. TM Hunter knows how to spin a sci-fi yarn.

This was a fun romp. The book is written in first-person with the protagonist narrating. West's self-deprecating thoughts and dark humor reminded me of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden.

Good story, great character! I am now a fan of Aston West (and TM Hunter). There's lots of action, and the tension started on page one and never let up.

The author is deft at world-building and character development. Aston West is a long suffering hero. I will read more of his series.

T. M. Hunter has always had a fascination with travel to other worlds, earning a B. S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Kansas. His works have often been compared to the great pulp writers of the past, which made his multiple appearances in RAY GUN REVIVAL seem almost destined. He mainly writes in his Aston West universe, with three novels in the series (HEROES DIE YOUNG, FRIENDS IN ...more
