Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile has some of my favorite illustrations I’ve seen in the books that I have read for this class. I loved the use of colors. Waber did not color everything as it would be colored in real life, but used very few colors for each page, most often having pages on which the only color was green, with everything else on the page being monochromatic. There are several pages that have multiple colors, but the most striking ones, for me, were the illustrations that only used green. More...

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, written by Bernard Waber. This is a story about Lyle a crocodile who isn’t your average crocodile. He was a famous crocodile who know lives with the Primm’s. He spends most of his time playing with Joshua. Not everyone in the neighborhood likes Lyle, especially Mr. Grumps and his cat Loretta. Mr. Grumps does everything to get Lyle out of his neighborhood including shipping Lyle to the zoo. Like we said before Lyle isn’t your average crocodile and obviously isn’t going to f More...

The inside is green....obviously because Lyle the Crocodile is green. There are no illustrations until you turn the page and you see Lyle feeding ducks in a city setting. The illustration look like paint or/and watercolor. You turn the page and the story begins next to the publisher/dedication page. This book has a human family and with them is living isn't your usual animal like a dog, cat or fish. It's a Crocodile. Most of the illustrations in this book are shades of green, grey and black. Lyle, the mild-mannered crocodile, lives with the Primm family on East 88th Street, and loves making himself useful as part of the family. His only problem is the neighbor's cat, Loretta, who is terrified of him. Mr. Grumps, protective of Loretta, succeeds in ousting Lyle from the neighborhood, but at the zoo he cannot fit in with the other crocodiles. Finally, an opportunity arises for Lyle to prove his true character to Mr. Grumps.

This sweet, funny story provides a sympathetic v More...

This is a strange story about an anthropomorphic rendering of a crocodile. He walks on his hind legs, dances, ice skates and shops at a department store. Of course there is a bit of drama and the crocodile is a hero. It is a bit long, but overall, it's a fun story. I remember this book from my childhood, but it wasn't one of my favorites. Nor do I think it will be a favorite for our girls.

We borrowed this book from our local library as part of a paperback book and CD kit. The More...

Lyle was a friendly pet of the Primms, but he scared Loretta, Mr. Grumps' cat. One day, while out shopping with Mrs. Primm, they became separated and Lyle saw his old performing partner, Hector P. Valenti, who was a salesman in Mr. Grumps' department store. Hector and Lyle started performing and were caught by Mr. Grumps, who fired Hector and threatened Lyle. He brought paperwork to the Primms' to put Lyle in the zoo. Lyle was unhappy in the zoo, but was rescued by Hector who was a new zoo caret More...

Mr. Grumps hates Lyle, who lives with the Primm family, because he frightens his cat. After Lyle has an adventure in the department store, Mr. Grumps manages to get Lyle locked up in the zoo. Luckily he gets the green light to come back home before he escapes to Australia.

I loved this book. The pictures are charming. I love the color scheme, the bold lines, and the way Lyle sticks out. Oddly enough, my 7-month-old baby was completely charmed and giggled her way through the pictures.

"Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile" is an adventurous story about a crocodile who just wants to help everyone. This crocodile is named Lyle and he is as nice as can be. He lives with a family in their apartment. Their neighbor, Mr. Grumps, cannot stand Lyle. Mr. Grumps has Lyle moved to the local zoo. When Lyle escapes the zoo he ends up saving Mr. Grumps from his burning apartment. I would use this story in my classroom to show my students to treat everyone with respect even if they do not More...

The first Lyle book I've read. Some parts are a little weird unless you've read the other Lyle books that came before. Lyle the family pet causes trouble without meaning to for his neighbor, who gets him committed to the zoo. Lyle doesn't belong and escapes, though fears he'll still never be able to go back home. When he rescues his neighbor from a fire, he is able to return to his old neighborhood and makes new friends in the process.

Lyle is a happy crocodile that lives with people who love him until his grumpy old neighbor gets him sent to the zoo. He ends up escaping and saving his neighbor from a fire, and is once again able to live in his beloved neighborhood.

-Good pass-the-time book
-Lots of events happen; potential lesson when teaching beginning, middle, and end. sequence of events, main idea, etc.

I have always loved this book. The story is about a crocodile who lives in a normal neighborhood with a normal family. But because of his looks, his next door neighbor thinks of him to be a nuisance. This story shows how just because someone looks different on the outside doesn't mean he is so different on the inside.

Strangely enough Lyle a crocodile lives with the Primm Family in their apartment building as part of their family but their neighbor Mr.Grumps and his cat,Loretta do not like him and try to get him put into a zoo! That is until Lyle rescues them both from a fire and he begs him to stay!

**A lesson to take from this book is don't be too quick to judge someone until you get to know them!

Lyle the crocodile is a nice boy who unfortunately drives his neighbor car crazy! A misshaping at a local store ends up getting Lyle put in the Central Park Zoo. He makes it back to the neighborhood in which he is from and makes his cat neighbor change his mind about the way he feels about Lyle.

This book was kinda lame. A crocodile living along with people would be more realistic if he was not the only animal that was like that. I think the water colors in this book are brilliant. So much detail was added, yet it kept a soft look about it. This is a true villain/ hero book.

Although it is a very long picture book, I found it hard to put down. It was a really cute story that sends the message that we shouldn't judge other people unless we really know them. It has some big words in it but with the help of a parent I would definitely recommend this book!

A mild mannered crocodile, loved by his human family is misunderstood by neighbors. Sadly he is relegated to the local zoo until an act of heroism restores him to his rightful home. This is a well-written tale that reminds me a bit of the Curious George books.

As a picture book, this is much too long. It's more like an early reader, but even so the plot felt a little convoluted.[return][return]But regardless of the length and pacing, it is a cute, irreverent story.

I'm completely amazed that I never read these Lyle the Crocodile picture books before now! I am assuming this one might be the first in the series of (who knows how many total!) Lyle books, but am not sure. Either way, this guy is about as adorable as Snoopy is to the Peanuts gang. It's always fun reading about an animal that behaves like a human and hangs out with other humans (with none of the humans treating him remotely like he's an animal). VERY cute. I checked out another Lyle book wh More...

I always loved any kind of story that personified animals. I loved animals, and I remember that I liked this story. But I didn't love this story. It was one of those that sat on my bookshelf for years, but I read it only once or twice.
