It is October, 1861, and the Civil War still rages on in Eastern Missouri. Her Enemies Blue and Gray by Ellen Gray Massey

A brilliant historical fiction about a woman in the South who set her slaves free. The North vs South battle is in full swing, her father is dead as is her brothers and she needs to fight to keep her farm, her freeman and herself, alive and prospering.
If she fails, she loses the love of her life, respect hard earned and possibly her life.

Lettie Worthington has recently lost her entire family and is left to run their plantation with the help of her freed slaves. With the threat of the bushwhacker gang looming, can she protect what she has left? I highly recommend this book to people who enjoy historic fiction, especially teenagers.
