I liked it, but I wouldn't rush out to get it. I liked the characters, especially Alexia's open honesty, logic and views of life.
I would have preferred more understanding of Hayden's emotions. He could control himself and was rational enough to have any mistress checked out by a doctor before being with her. This is the second time I've read this book. The first time was right at the heels of finishing the Rarest Bloom series, and I was craving some more Madeline Hunter. Sadly, the first time I was comparing it to the Rarest Bloom series and I found it lacking.

The best thing about this book was the ending. The two main characters, Hayden and Alexia, are happy and in love as the story ends but the journey to get to that ending is plodding and tedious. Throughout the novel, Alexia blames Hayden for the ruination of her family and he is honor bound not to tell her the truth; that her two cousins, one of which she was in love with, are criminals. It started out promising, than diverted to your typical tall, dark and brooding rogue, seducing an innocent, down on her luck, lady of good breeding. Oh and let's not forget she isn't your typical english rose, but rather plain, and firmly on the shelf....

I attended a fantastic workshop at the New Jersey RWA conference this October, which addressed the importance of conflict in romance. Madeline Hunter gave the kicky-ass lecture, and made me curious about her own novels. There is something about Mrs. Hunter's story that leaves me unsatisfied. I find the interactions between Hayden and Alexia are very bland. If I could give 3 1/2 stars, I would. I found the characters interesting, especially Alexia, and I found the mystery at the core of the plot intriguing. Alexia interested me because she was far more practical and confident in herself than most virgin heroines of this kind of book. Yet she was entirely believable. The plot included a mystery about bank embezzlement. Alexia believed that Hayden, the man she married, caused financial ruin for other people. That was not true, but he couldn't tell her the truth because he had given his word. The plot was different from most romance novels in that the two main characters got married in the middle of the book, and then the story continued.

Comecei por achar o inicio um pouco chato e que provavelmente o desenrolar da história e o final eram bem previsisveis... enganei-me!
Depois de avançar mais um pouco apercebi-me que o enredo estava a ficar cada vez mais misteriosos e que as surpresas iam aparecer em breve!
Alexia e Hayden viveram os seu Amor em pleno ao mesmo tempo que resolveram os grandes mistérios do seu passado.

I was looking foward for this book. Something about the cover and the synopsis drove me to read it. However, the story is plain awful! It is well written, I can't deny it. But the plot is a big fat cliché, giving me that feeling of permanent déjà vu. It's that kind of story where de main characters disagree and dislike each others at the begining, but end up in each other's arms after a big proof of love and passionate love making.

This is one of madeline hunters more sex saturated books. Still wonderful, and she keeps the sex scenes from getting boring (ususally) and the seduction part is just HOT. I also liked her exploration of how we can love and hate at the same time, and her embracing of her heroines practicality. The characters were well developed, the plot and conflict well maintained. Another great book by Hunter.
3.5 Hayden on Alexia story seemed to have a calm sensual nature to it, often I had wished it had been lighter. The love scenes were slow and languid with 2 very uninhibited lovers. Madeline Hunter's tales always have an authenticity to them where the pace is set by the characters temperament, therefore this one was slow, smart and well thought out.
I adored this book! It's one of the best historical romances I've read! I'd never read Madeline Hunter before, but I'm going to read all her books now! The hero is to die for and the heroine is strong and smart, and the two of them together made the book so good I couldn't put it down.
The romance between the main characters of this book didn't work well for me. By the end, I was bought into it, but the early phase of courtship/desire just didn't work. There is a common pitfall with setting up the hero as someone the heroine has reason to fear or despise, and this book falls smack into it: I am just not convinced that the heroine could actually overcome her perfectly reasonable (from her POV) initial dislike of the hero quite so early on.

I didnt like this book and had crossed ms hunter off my author list. Happily I read one of her medievals and suggest you try something else by this author, as it was quite good.

This book finished strong after I almost gave up a couple of times. The characters were fairly interesting and the writing was good, but I'm not used to reading historical romances with little humor, after a steady diet of Eloisa James, Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas. I'm intrigued enough by the main character's brothers to want to read their stories, too.

It's okay. Not a bad book and the plot was interesting but it lacked something. A bit unrealistic if you ask me. I liked both main characters but it definitely could have been better paced and instrumented.
