In May 2000 Chris Smith left his comfortable Worcestershire home, but instead of cycling the routine twelve miles to work, he kept on pedalling.
Thirteen months later (having fallen off six times and worn out three sets of tyres, three chains and two pairs of boots) he arrived in Beijing.

During a gruelling 16,500-mile examination of physical and mental stamina he traversed

Cycling the world with time to explore and time to reflect. An engrossing book that makes the vast distances involved and the places visited vivid and fresh. A journey that you feel and not just read. Chapeau

It is amusing, extremely well-written and very readable. This book could well have been awarded a prize, but the judges felt that there

A superb real account of long distance cycling. Well written and entertaining, not afraid to leave sections of the journey out when there is not much to say. Really feel like you are there.

It inspired us to cycle 6 months through Asia. How is that for an impact?
