This is a true story about the swans in Sun Valley, Idaho. The author was sitting near the pond at the lodge and saw the swans "turn in" for the night. Eccles was amazed at how the swan "parents" got ready for bed and how the littlest cygnet followed--while two larger cygnets played around in the water until the last moment. Thus, the story related in this book was born.

Yes the illustrations were beautiful, but they were so tiny and there were so few of them that this "picture book" came off as excessively wordy. Also, the writing was terribly boring and horribly depressing. I would have a hard time reading this to a child because even I felt really down after reading this. If the book was lightened up ...more

Very sweet. I didn't love the artwork and it got a little preachy at the end, but it had a good message.
