But it won't be hard to remember now that Deacon is representing her father in the legal battle dividing the Beckett clan and threatening the Easy Money Rodeo Arena.

More Than a Cowboy by Cathy McDavid

I enjoyed More than a Cowboy. I liked the characters. You want things to work out for them.
The setting is a ranch in Arizona that is called Reckless. They have their own rodeos a few times a year.

Liberty just found out who her father was. She was always told he was someone passing by. Liberty helps teach youth how to ride and helps with the rodeo stock. She has had a crush on Deacon for years. She wants to get to know her father.

Who doesn't love a cowboy? I know I love em. I think part of what stood out to me about this book was that it was three women who were making their way in a world dominated by men, and more than that they were wildly successful at running a rodeo business. There is a lot going on in this book, a series of difficult family dynamics, a quest to find out the truth about something that happened many years ago, and of c...more

In More Than a Cowboy by Cathy McDavid, Liberty Beckett always believed that she was a product of her mother’s affair with some guy at the rodeo. At least that’s what her mother always told her. But when a cowboy tells her he clearly remembers her mother and father being together when she was conceived, she has to wonder if her mother has lied to her her entire life and what she is going to do about it. So she decides to contact her father, the only father she always believed to be and find out...more

More Than a Cowboy was a nice, sweet story. Liberty Beckett opens up a can of worms when she searches for and finds the father she never knew. When her father, Mercer, arrives he wants his half of the the family ranch/arena, as well as the chance to get back with his ex-wife. He hires Deacon McCrea as his attorney. Deacon worked at the ranch when he was a teenager but quickly left town after he was accused of letting the bulls loose causing injuries to another worker, which he did not do. He's h...more

McDavid’s in-depth development of the setting really draws you in. I could picture the rodeo arena. I could smell the bulls & broncs. Also, getting to know the town history really made me feel like part of the community, rather than just a bystander. I appreciated the accuracy in the equine and rodeo aspect of the story. McDavid defined some of the less common events, and made sure that all information given was accurate. She melded these truths into her complex and wildly unique story that...more

More Than A Cowboy takes place at the Easy Money Rodeo Arena in Reckless, Arizona. The arena is owned by Sunny Beckett whose daughters, Liberty and Cassidy, ran it with her. Sunny kicked her husband, Mercer, out 25 years earlier but he still owned half of the arena business. Mercer hired attorney Deacon McCrea to get what was rightfully his which is half the business and funds owed him over the years. His plan was to either become a working partner or get a financial settlement. Deacon had worke...more

Attorney Deacon McCrea returned to Reckless Arizona with one thought in mind, to clear his name as the culprit of a horrific goring accident when he worked as a horse wrangler as a teen for the Easy Money Rodeo Arena. Without thinking clearly, Deacon ran away after being accused without saying goodbye to anyone including Liberty. Hired by Mercer Beckett to re-establish his one-half ownership of the Arena, Deacon faced a hostile confrontation with Mercer’s estranged wife Sunny and her daughters L...more

I won a copy of "More Than a Cowboy" through the goodreads first reads giveaways.

Deacon McCrea has returned to Reckless, Arizona for one reason, to clear his name. When he accepts a job representing Liberty Beckett's father, he never expected that keeping his professional and personal life separate would be so difficult. As a teen Liberty had a crush on Deacon that never disappeared even when Deacon had. I enjoyed that this book was not just a romance. While there is plenty of steamy scenes ther...more

I didn't like this book at all. It was very slow moving and what romance was in it was very limited. I couldn't get into the two main characters whatsoever. I was being generous in giving it two stars.
Harlequin Books
"This beginning of the Reckless, Arizona series is an entertaining tale of a hero out to win the girl he’s loved since high school. Their growing realization of their feelings for one another is well depicted" (RT Book Reviews). 4 stars

NOTE: I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads

This was such a cute story. I loved the 2 main characters Liberty and Deacon. You can't help but fall in love with the type of man Deacon is. Their relationship and history together was so endearing and sweet. As you are reading you are just waiting for them to finally be together.

I won this book through GoodReads! Unfortunately, the margin between the text and the page binding is too narrow (nonexistent) , which made it difficult to physically hold onto the book and turn the pages. I really like the story, but could not finish reading it due to the way the book was bound.
