This looked like a children's book. But the opening scene has more violence and horror than I'd put in a children's book. The trips through the underworld were entertaining and felt similar to others I've read, including the classics. The premise that Orpheus becomes the Pied Piper is very interesting. But should a child killer ever be forgiven? Really? Should a symathetic and tragic hero become the villain of a horror tale and then a fellow hero in a group of adventurers? A shorter book that I read in a day. It took me all the way to Hades and back, and though I haven't read anything else by Lindskold to compare, I think it was a brilliantly imaginative story. It was easy to read, but kept me up until the very end.
