A New England story about a boy trying very hard to give something he created or did himself as a birthday present to his Mom. A good read aloud and a story that emphasizes effort over product...refreshing! Written in 1971 and later, 1996, illustrated by the boy depicted in the story, Thomas Aldren Dingman Watson. I love the Watson family's art and stories and was first introduced to them with "Catch Me, Kiss Me, and Say it Again" by Clyde and Wendy Watson.
