I loved his closely observed descriptions of the behavior of common murre, puffin, cormorant, herring gull, skua, and other seabirds. Passages describing the landscape are lyrical. At times there's too much anthropomorphism as often found in literature of late 19th/early 20th century, but I found I could laugh it off.
