I would give this 4- stars.

So, initially, I wasn't into it. Aubrey, and I believe she even said this about herself, is not an easy person to like. She's shallow, not looking for love, likes the one-night stands with no strings and no attachments, and admits freely to being this way. I get that she's portrayed this way in the beginning because the story follows Aubrey on her growth in character. However, as I got to know the characters, I was more invested in the story and their lives.

From the moment she began working for her boss, Jenna, Aubrey Vincent has done her best to do right by her. She loves what she does, and is determined in climbing the corporate ladder in the hopes that she'll achieve something greater. In her mind, it'll allow her to finally sever ties with having to live in her parent's attic. Mind you, they've helped her immensely whenever possible. The lure of finally being on her own, however, is something she'll do her best to make possible.

I thought this was a very good read for this new to-me author. I’m not sure what to call this but I believe it would fall under the New Adult sub-genre. This story was told in third person but we also only got to see the POV side from the heroine, which I didn’t think about it till now which is strange because I don’t think it was a problem for me, so yeah.

Anyways, this story is about a girl Aubrey who’s life never goes as planned. She was very well known back in high school with hundreds of fri

Book Review: The Billionaire And The Barfly by Adrianne James: An Interesting New Adult Romance Novel

The Billionaire & The Barfly by Adrianne James is a new adult romance genre novel. This is a story of Henry Maximus and Aubrey Vincent and the love between the two. Henry is proud to be a super-hero-geek. He is quite smart and intelligent in business as well. In a very short period of his career and at a very young age Henry is able to get to the top of

I'm giving this book 4 stars. For me, this was an intriguing story. Not generally a book I would be drawn to instantly, with that being said I'm glad this book gave me more than I anticipated. The story of a woman focused on moving up the career ladder, has a fear of letting anyone close to her emotionally. Aubrey has came to the conclusion that opening that door that allows emotions to over take her decisions will not only shatter her, but also interrupt her goal in her professional life. ...more

This is one of those books that comes along and surprises you. I’ll be honest, from the synopsis I thought it was just going to be one of those cute and dirty geeky fantasy romance stories. And well, it was. But then at the same time it totally wasn’t, it was much more than just that.

Told solely from Aubrey’s point of view, (although I would have loved to see parts of the st

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. A very nice, feel good romance between a "geeky" billionaire and the girl he crushed on in high school. They are now grown up. He's still crushing on her but she's been burned and is only interested in hook-ups, no relationships, no how. A little OTT at times, but a sweet read.

It's always been hard for me envisioning geek hotties because you know, the word itself sounded like an oxymoron. Geek and Hotties doesn't go together in my book. In this however, I find that easy to do. I was able to picture Henry in my mind well enough and love the geekiness in the hotness that is himself.

But more than the hotness of our billionaire hero, what I love about this book was the way each of the chara

This story turned out to be a very different romance compared to the main stream billionaire romances out there. Henry was the sweetest and most loyal guy I have read in so long. He wanted more from Aubrey from day one and he wasn't going to settle for less. Aubrey at times drove me to near madness with her selfish attitude. But in the end Aubrey

found myself enjoying this book more then I thought I would, the beginning was a little slow for me and I wasn't finding any connections with the main character, however after reading for a little bit I quickly changed my mind. I loved that Aubrey didn't have everything together, she didn't have a messed up past, she just had regular everyday issues, like so many others have. I liked how real her character felt once we were ab

Review: The Billionaire and the Barfly by Adrianne James Aubrey Vincent wants what every twenty something does; her career to take off, to be able to move out of her parents home and start a life of her own. What makes her different from most women, especially in this genre, is she doesn't want a boyfriend. She loves sex, lets get that straight, but she is more than happy with one night stands with whoever peaks her interests for the time being. That is until Henry Maximus comes into the picture ...more

The title had me a little hesitant. There is only so many of a "girl broken and lost, meets millionaire, becomes utterly in love, has wild sex and are happy" I can take lol. Maybe that's because it seemed to be the theme for the past few books I had to review.

I was pleasantly surprised because learning about the characters there was a little more to it and I felt that the main lady, Aubrey, was not what I had thought she would be. When I see the word barf

A Clark Kent wannabe. A sexy/nerdy man cloaked in superhero apparel with a secret identity. Yep, that describes Henry perfectly, but it doesn’t explain who he is. Henry is a sweet guy who has been in love with a girl since his early school days. A girl who now notices him, but who can’t get over herself enough to get to know him. Oh, but he has just the perfect little wager to fix that.

Aubrey is a personal assistant that is hoping to work her way up into a more fulfilling career. She gives her all to her job and makes her boss look good. She’s a girl avoiding relationships. She doesn’t want to risk her heart. Aubrey has one night stands. She doesn’t even learn their names, wouldn’t want to get attached. Henry was a geek in high school. Normally books that say "billionaire" or "millionaire" in the title turn me off... but this is NOT your typical billionaire romance. No, really. So if you're like me, have no fear. This isn't one of those typical books where the hero's money saves the heroine.

James's heroine, Aubrey, is awesomely independent and she doesn't need, nor does she want the heroes money. He doesn't zoom in to save her from financial peril at every turn. James did something innovative here-- she took a well-known subge
Aubrey is a personal assistant at Viola video game company, which she does an amazing job at. So when she gets an opportunity to work in marketing she goes out to the neighborhood bar and runs into Henry a "Hot Nerd" with a penchant for comic book superheroes. Their attraction is tangible, but Aubrey doesn't do relationships, she likes to use them for one night and toss them back. So when she finds he works or rather is the "Maximus" in Maximus Gaming, she feels betrayed. Henry refuses to let ...more

Henry Maximus .. oh the naughty things I want to do to you in your Superman Boxers! hehehe. I really enjoyed “The Billionaire & The Barfly!” I thought it was a funny, witty, and sweet story, and I enjoyed getting to know the characters. At first, I was a bit frustrated with Aubrey and her inability to open up. My frustration melted quickly, as she opened her heart to Henry. Aubrey and Henry are characters I felt I could be friends with, and I value that in main characters in the books I read. The story was easy to read and consistent, and I found myself wanting to go back to the ...more

I love a story where the main character is a fighter and doesn't rely on a man to make her feel worth something. Aubrey is just that kind of character. She works her butt off as a personal assistant with dreams of moving up. She didn't finish college but she is really good when it comes to marketing. She has walls built up because in the back of her mind she feels like she will always fail in anything in her life.

Wow, that was an abrupt ending! Technically, not a cliffhanger, but still sort of a non-ending. I really wanted to see Aubrey succeed and find out what’s going to happen with the baby. It wasn’t even really a HEA. I’m just so confused on why it would end like that.

Besides the ending though, it was a cute story, although I didn’t really agree with the title. I don’t think Aubrey was really much of a barfly, even though she said she was. Her actions

A wonderful read for anyone who is looking for a different twist on the billionaire/millionaire sub-genre in contemporary romance. Henry is not your average money-man. He's sweet and geek-chic and his persistence with the stubborn Aubrey makes him likable without a typical Alpha's control issues. I'm hoping for a potential sequel or follow-up short with a bit of Henry's POV because I really enjoyed him as a character. The romance between Henry and Aubrey flows nicely and there is some serious ...more

I really enjoyed this book. Aubrey is damaged when it comes to men, but tries so hard to be good. She cares for her family, especially her brother. She works hard. She just keeps getting the short end of the stick.
Of course, running into super sexy billionaire Henry will turn her life upside down. Can she let him care for her? Can she give up her one night stand ways to give him a chance?

I enjoyed this story so much. It was super cute,

You can't judge a book by it's cover, Or in this case title. Based on title alone. I was expecting something along the lines of a cheesy loves story. you know the kind. This book wasn't like that at all!

Aubrey Vincent has goals. unfortunately nothing ever goes as planned. Especially when she reunites with a man from her past, her business rival Henry Maximus.

Henry Maximus tried living the life of a bachelor, but Running into Aubrey has left him wanting more.

More of a 3.5? I actually really enjoyed it! But I feel like the cover and the description focuse more on the Romance/ sexy aspect of the story when really the parts that I enjoyed the most were how focused on her job and her family Aubrey was! It was also really fun to read about the geeky side of Henry :) - very sweet read. Hope we get to read more about these characters in the future. - Full review to come

Very good. I enjoyed the story lines. Aubrey had some interesting job conflicts which were made more difficult by her relationship with Henry. I liked her relationship with her brother. It is hard to keep a balance with teenagers.
It was a little odd that Henry didn't really use his billions. Really? He must be better than me. I would splurge for a little while anyway!

If you love hot geeky hero's, this is the book for you. In the first book of her Coming Home series, Adrianne James crafts a fun and steamy romance. Aubrey is a strong heroine, who can be a little bitchy sometimes, but has a soft spot for her little brother. Henry is a former geek turned billionaire who doesn't let her get away with being bitchy. The interaction between the unlikely couple is surprisingly realistic and sweet.

Don’t let the title mislead you. This book was a quick, fun and sexy read that was an unexpected surprise. Though it wasn’t necessarily the most in depth book that I have read, I found the characters of Aubrey and Henry to be enjoyable. The ending was a little abrupt and left some things unresolved for me but still worth checking out.
