Detective Fiction Weekly Magazine first published this breezy and fun story of a murder which takes place in a dentist’s office. While Rodge is waiting to see his old pal Steve for some work on a tooth he’d rather not have looked at, a lowly emigrant also waiting his turn is kind to him, so Rodge — partly out of kindness, partly out of cowardice — lets him go ahead of him. But then the man croaks while in Steve’s office, and the cops soon discover it was murder.
