Safe, dependable Jessie Slaymaker has committed the cardinal cliché of falling in love with her boss—the dashing Charlie Davenport. Not that he’s actually noticed her. But Jessie’s comfortable, if fruitless, infatuation gets turned upside down when she lays her eyes—and a lot more—on her boss’s slightly unkempt but delectable little brother, Jack. Ok I'm biased as this is by my fiance Jo but I was asked to read it and critique by her. As I read a lot I have read a lot of debut novels. I wouldn't necessarily head out and purchase a romance book myself (sci-fi is more my thing) but just focusing on the writing style and quality of the edit I was really surprised and impressed by how good this was. The pace of the book is fast and it's an easy read. I know she has gone the extra mile by getting a professional editor on board and I was hard ...more

I still don't know if I could call this a romance, it was more of a "How to do everything wrong" and then still come out with a great ending. I was sure I was going to hate it.

The title is one of the biggest lies in this book, Jessie's love life is FAR from non-existent. The fact is that it was a bit too "existent" and got her in a lot of trouble.

A thoroughly enjoyable read about the safe and dependable Jessie Slaymaker, a protagonist you can’t fail to love. I wholly expected her to be a weak and lost character but she’s witty, down-to-earth and entirely likeable, if just a tad confused.

Contrary to the book’s title, Jessie actually sees quite a lot of action. The sex scenes are written in a frank and to the point manner, no throbbing manhoods in sight, which I really liked. Ilkes manages to capture the heat and passion simply with writin

Great chick lit, but not in the too overly romantic kind of way; more fun and down-to-earth take on it.
Sex is an open topic and described in a manner that makes it fun and not cringing to read. Impressed with this debut. It only took me a couple of days to read, and it was a light and fun read.
I actually really liked the protagonist,Jessie, who is not the push-over she appears to be from the blurb, she is likable and funny and kept me interested in the story.
One thing I will say, is that the blu
