I've said before that the "...IN DEATH" series by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) is my all-time favorite series, and after 24 books, that still holds true.
With INNOCENT IN DEATH, I spent as much time crying over the emotional disturbance between my favorite couple, Eve Dallas and Roarke, as I did trying to find out who committed the crimes.
When a likeable, all-around good guy teacher at a private school ends up dead, poisoned by ricin in his hot chocolate, the s...more

This book in the series seemed especially good to me... maybe just from having to wait for it. I missed her style and rhythm and of course, the characters. Innocent is set in February of 2060 and although I didn't care for the futuristic setting in Naked (the first book in the series) I've really grown to appreciate it. I like the fact that Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb just mentions things in passing as if they are taken for granted like they probably would be, leaving much to the imagin...more

readers of JD Robb or other homicide mystery series
If you've read any book in this series before, you know Lieutenant Eve Dallas is a homicide cop in New York City about fifty years in the future. This time around, Eve has caught a case that seems to have no motive and no suspect. Who would kill a much-loved grade school history teacher? But someone has killed him, and Eve will find out who and why. And while all this is going on, she's dealing with a woman from her husband, Roarke's, past - a woman who actually mattered.

Well I just finished reading my first Nora Roberts novel, "Innocent In Death", and I'm thinking it quite probably will be my last. But wait, perhaps I am being unfair: this was not a Nora Roberts novel, it was a Nora Roberts writing as J. D. Robb novel. Maybe those written under her own name are better. Of course this book, I'm sure, would appeal to a number of people. If you like relatively unimaginative stories peopled by exceedingly attractive, infallibly intelligent, tough ...more

OOOO, I loved this one!! I am ga-ga over Eve and Roarke and one of the things that I like best about them is how solid they are together. Most series will make couples seperate, fight, doubt each other and leave the gentle reader (me!) wondering if they will make it as a couple. Eve and Roarke? Well, they go through these things, too, but in my gut I always know that they will make it. I may be mad at one (or both!) of them from time to time for their behavior, but hey! Don't I feel that w...more

This is, to date, the best book of the series. Whereas Born in Death is sort of light-hearted, this book has challenging subject matter. It is a credit to Roberts' writing that her characters are so realistic to me that I cried through a good bit of the middle of the book. Skip some of the other books in the series, but this is one you just do not want to miss.

I didn't like this book when I first started reading it. It's supposed to take place in the future, in year 2060 or something like that. It annoyed me a little, because I think it's a series and I've never read any of the other ones, and they kept referring to things differently. For example, they used the word "units" instead of money, and "fizzies" instead of soda, and "tube of Pepsi" instead of can or bottle of Pepsi. And I could not figure out why that was u...more

Roarke vs. Magdalena:"Listen carefully. I'd crush you like a bug for causing my wife one single moment of pain. Believe it. Fear it." ....
Any threat to Eve, whether it be emotional or physical, sure brings out Scary Roarke with a vengenance. Yeah, Roarke was a blind fool at first when it came to Magdalena, but he came to his senses and when he finally saw through Maggie's farce he didn't hold back one bit on his wrath.

I'm not sure why I keep reading this series. I don't really read romance and the murder mysteries in this series are nothing compared to Doyle's or Christie's. But, damn it, I'm hooked.

I've read enough Nora Roberts to know I do not enjoy her books much at all. I am aware that many love the romance genre - I'm not a fan. Although I think her J.D. Robb efforts are better, I still find them incredibly shallow and unbelievable. Eve Dallas may be one of the most ridiculous characters I've ever come across. Her relation with Roarke is so unlikely it's hard to buy into their nauseating romance. I love my friends and family. They know I love a good suspense novel ... I just hope...more

I'm not sure if WOW sums up effectively the reactions and feelings this book brought out of me. This installment so far has to be the most shocking out of the entire series. Eve has seen her share of the evil in the world. She has lived through it and survived it and brought so many of the perpetrators of evil to justice. The identity of this villain comes as a major shock and surprise to everyone around Eve, but not Eve. Nothing shocks or surprises her when it comes to the evil in people. But s...more

Innocent in Death is book #24 in the In Death series, written by J.D. Robb. I read this book on a recommendation from my mother, who is a big mystery/detective fiction fan. What intrigued me was that the book has science fiction elements; it takes place in the year 2059 and there are a number of futuristic gadgets, laws, and events that are mentioned throughout the book.

This post is out of date at this point, since I actually read this book several days ago--but I wanted to go ahead and get it in so it still counts as part of the 2007 Book Log. ;)
Innocent in Death is the mumble-mumbleth entry (I lost count ages ago) in the "In Death" series, which even a long-time fan like me has to admit is pretty formulaic at this point. That said, this particular installment wasn't half-bad at all. We get another round of a genuine fight between Eve and...more

I always enjoy great escapist reading and Innocent in Death is guaranteed to keep any reader riveted until the very last page. Set in a futuristic New York City and inhabited by engaging characters this book is all things to all readers....romance novel, thriller, gripping mystery and more.
It features a strong, capable (yet vulnerable) female Detective named Eve Dallas, her uber-successful drop dead gorgeous hubby Roarke; Sommerset, their dedicated, faithful and somewhat acerbic maj...more

Another excellent book in the series!
The plot was well written, and I found it just as difficult to swallow as the characters in the book. I really liked that.
The side plot was excellent as well. A couple needs a fight every now and again, and I'm glad it turned out the way it did, I think, for both, Eve and Roarke.
Peabody and McNabb are their usual selves, and the, um, 'struggles' I guess you could say, between Eve and Summerset - in this book, Fantastic!

Lt. Eve Dallas and her partner Detective Delia Peabody are called on-scene to investigate the death of a teacher at one of NYC’s top private schools. Craig Foster was a popular history teacher who died from drinking poisoned cocoa. Since Foster brought the cocoa from home, Dallas and Peabody initially suspect his wife or a family member. But there are no red flags there, so they move on to the parents of Foster’s students or one of his colleagues. They hone in on another teacher, one known f...more

Eve Dallas investigates the murder of one of most innocuous victims yet, a well liked, newly married teacher, and ends up with one of her creepiest villians (which I enjoyed the set up to, even though I saw it coming a little way ahead). Eve & Roarke also undergo a tense period in their marriage (the first? I haven't read enough these books to know) when an old flame of Roarke's reappears in his life. But I'll let you in on a secret - it all turns out OK (as if it wouldn't).
