I gave this book a 4 star simply because I like the sports type of books. Sports books are really the only type of book that I have actually rated and have written a review for. This book is about a kid named Billy Raynor. He of course is the main character and just happens to play basketball for his middle school team. He has a brother named Ben, he's not too bright on the basketball side, but loves to play the Piano. His dad is Billy's head coach, eventually breaks up with his wife (Billy and...more
I liked this book because it’s all about basketball and that’s my second favorite sport. Also it’s very interesting with the separation of his parents and how he cannot concentrate on his basketball skills. I could never put it down until the end. My favorite character in Comeback Kids is Lenny Dinardo because he likes to play basketball. He’s the best player on the YMCA. At the end, Lenny made the winning shot and became the center of attention. My favorite scene is when Billy was playing in a...more
If I had boys, this would be a great book for them! My nephews love these books. This particular one is about a boy whose mother and father are in the process of getting a divorce. There's also a younger brother that is gifted at piano and not sports plus a teenage sister that is always cheerful but overly chatty. The main character learns that sometimes being the star of the game doesnt mean being the one with the hot hand (and shooting all the time). He sacrifices a championship game to see hi...more
I enjoyed reading Hot Hand a lot by Mike Lupica. It had 190 pages. And I thought it was a great book, and I could never put it down! The main character is Billy Raynor. Billy's parents are divorced so him and his brother, Ben Raynor, have been very upset about the seperation. Their parent's are both trying to spend lot's of time with them with different hobbies. Billy loves to play basketball and his dad has always coached Billy's team. And Ben Raynor plays the piano, and his mom always prepares...more
Book Two in the Comeback Kids series by Mike Lupica - 3 stars. Billy Raynor is a 10 year old basketball player who is having problems with his family and his coach (who is his father). His parents have separated and Billy feels lost. And to make it worse, his coach/father is down on him for shooting too much in his basketball games.
This book is typical Mike Lupica teen drama for boys. It is centered on sports, but has "life lessons" that the readers can absorb without too much preaching. I start...more

10-year-old Billy’s parents are separated. His father is his basketball coach and is very tough on Billy. They ‘butt” heads all the time. Billy loves to shoot the ball and his father wants him to pass it to others on the team. Most of the action takes place on the court, which is natural since this is a book about basketball. But it is also about how a family copes when the parents are going through a divorce. I felt this area was weak. The ending seemed to be too quick with all loose ends tied...more
Hot Hand is a really good book and is about basketball and friendships. The boys named is Billy. Billy’s dad is the basketball coach and is really hard on Billy to pass the ball. Billy’s friend Lenny is the best player in the league and Billy is the 3rd best player so they have a very good team. Billy’s brother ben does not like sports but he really likes piano. Ben is very good at it but his dad wants him to play sports. One day at school this bully starts picking on Ben and Billy comes in to s...more
The book I read was called the Comback kids. It was written by Mike Lupica. It is about a boy named Billy and his parents are divorced. He has a brother named Ben and two sisters named Eliza and Peg. Billy's favorite sport is basketball, but he is not the best on the basketball team Lenny DiNardo was. It didn't bother Billy because he and Lenny were best friends. Billy's dad was the coach of the team and Lenny's dad was the assistant coach. There team was the best in the league there team went...more
I loved this book. I love sports but in general find a lot of sports books to be boring. This book, though, was great. It's a fast read. I read it in one night.
Billy loves basketball and in fact lives for basketball even more so now that he has been told that his parents are going through a trial seperation. His coach is his dad and they have a lot of issues. Billy's mad at his dad for leaving and he's mad at his dad for always complaining about his actions on the court. According to his dad, B...more

I liked this book because it has a lot to do with basket ball. Billy is one of the main characters in this story his mom and dad are going through a divorce and its really hard on him. my favorite part of this book is when he punches this bully named "Zeke the Geke" he punches him right in the stomach and knocks the wind out of him. I give this book a 4 star because it never really got boring. And I am exited to read more books by this author. If you like basket ball this is the book for you.
I think the book Hot Hand was a great choice book as i'm coming into the basketball season. This book deals with alot including relashiships between the main charcter named Billy and his mom and dad because they are getting a divorce. I believe this is a great 8th grade book to read. This book is particularly for basketball players and guys.

This is the first sports-related book that I've read (Unless if you would consider putting kids in an arena and watch them kill each other a sport).
I like the story. It has a good message, but the characters aren't described very well. It's hard for me to enjoy a book if I can't fully imagine a character.
