Karl May is well-loved German author, still popular even though he died a long time ago. I have read almost all of his novels, many as a kid, and still enjoy them - they are fun, even though May is a moralist. They make for leisurely reading, evoking a world gone-by. I read them in German (not sure if they have even been translated into English).

Wildly hilarious story about an "eternal student" and his friend's journey to 19th century China. One of the best by Karl May

In addition, he wrote stories set in his native Germany, in China and in South America. May also wrote poetry and several plays, as well a ...more
