Poetry/YA

This book is actually a collection of classic poetry(Shakespeare, ee cumings, T.S.Eliot, and others), that, in good YA tradition is neither to complicated or uses too esoteric wording. The poetry is good, ranging from all topics, from love, writing, death, to the plums that the author ate. All are in seeming good taste - neither something too distressing, or anything too childish. Quite a few of the poems will probably be familiar to most YA readers, as they are frequentl More...

This is a compilation of poems that I guess are supposed to be the best poems ever. There are some well known poems like The Raven, The Road Not Taken, The Jabberwocky, Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night and many others. There are love poems, poems about stars, Poems about food and many other topics. This book has a very wide array and if you don't like one you can move to the next. They are pretty short and some are very short.

This was kind of fun to read just because I don't often More...

When I found this in a used bookstore a few years back, I had read many of the poems it contains. Many were already favorites. But I was traveling, and there were a lot of poems I had NOT read, so it joined my collection. It's a wonderful introduction to a variety of forms and styles of poetry, as well as being a good read. As a bonus, the cover is pretty. I had not really enjoyed much Wallace Stevens before "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird." Although my personal preference for More...

I have to really study poetry to get it, so I am not a big fan. Although this book of poems had many in it that I had read and studied before and that I liked. It also had many that did not make any sense to me at all. Some of my favorites include Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare; The Tyger by William Blake; Easter Wings by George Herbert; The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, The Bean Eaters by Gwendolyn Brooks; and Delight in Disorder by Robert Herrick.

These are just of few of the More...

Summary: This is a book of poems from various authors. There is no apparent theme in the selection, but they are all very infamous. Jabberwocky, The Raven, Dulce Et Decorum Est, The Tyger, and many more well-known poems are included in this book.
Insights: I don't usually enjoy poetry. I picked this book to read because as an English major I should at least know poetry that is famous. This book was actually enjoyable. They were all short poems that adhered to my short attention span. Many we More...

A small booklet of some of history's greatest poems. The collection includes poets such as Keats, Dickinson, Shelley, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Pablo Neruda, William Carlos Williams, Langston Hughes, and many others. A charming introduction to excellent poems by some of the world's greatest poets.

An okay collection of poems -- definitely not the "best poems ever." Some good stuff here and there but a lot of seemingly random stuff that seemed heavy to me.

A collection of poems from some of the best poets. I would not suggest using this for elementary students, but great for middle or high school.

This book contains a collection of brilliant poems from brilliant poets. Most are very well known like "In a Station of the Metro" and "The Road Not Taken." Others not as much. These are all important poems for any teenager to know. There was some Emily Dickinson as well. There were some translated cultural poems that I'd never heard of that were very beautiful.

I really enjoyed these poems! Some were completely knew, some I had read for the first time just recentl More...

I'm not a discerning poetry reader but I enjoyed the collection that was provided in this book. The collection was short and sweet to read but also inspiring and uplifting.
I throughly enjoyed it.

A couple of my favorites were:
The Author to Her Book by Anne Bradstreet
Ode on a Grecian Urn by John Keats

with a couple of old traditional favorites from Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost.

I really enjoyed this eclectic little collection of poetry. I am a fan of any poetry that isn't too hard to understand. Most, though by no means all, of the poems are from the twentieth century. I enjoyed what I understood and didn't spend too much time worrying about the rest. I would recommend this slim volume to anyone who enjoys curling up with some of poetry's greatest voices.
