I'm a fast reader, but this one took me longer than I'd thought it would to finish; his use of setting requires complete attention. In a nutshell, he's an Oxford don (with university housing), has a place in London (to get away from Oxford, where he never really seems to fit in), a place in New York (he's Australian, seemingly more culturally comfortable with Americans than Brits), and Lisbon ... a story in itself: as a young Oxford student, he was "adopted" by the family of a Portguese fellow s ...more
