Andrea Kane's Twisted was an adventurous, thrilling novel that I couldn't put down. The storyline of Sloane Burbank was intriguing, with her strong FBI past and her new fears of the present. Though it seemed like she was going to be all business throughout the book, the arrival of Special Agent Derek Parker proved that wrong. He's a charming, chivalrous character that I found easy to like as an addition to Sloane's story. Though at first these two bump heads and bicker each time they're brought...more

I cannot rate this book. I am too angry at the moment which would affect my judgement.

While our psychopath was predictable the author did a great job with the unravelling of his motives. It made sense. Everything was wrapped up very well. The relationship between the main characters was well developed as well. Everything was great.. except

As soon as I started reading this book I felt like I was reading a J.D. Robb In Death book. In fact the beginning of it really made me think of the short book, Midnight In Death. There is a very similar theme going on. As I kept reading I kept feeling like I was reading what law enforcement was like just before the time period in the In Death books. However, so you don't think it's a rip off, the missing persons in this book follow a completely different theme from Midnight. There is good smush...more

Sloane Burbank is a former FBI agent who was injured in the line of duty and instead of taking a desk job decided to leave the Bureau until her therapy made her fit for active duty once more. In the meantime she is working as a private consultant for corporations and the police. She is contacted by the family of a childhood friend as a last resort that their daughter has been missing for close to a year and hired to look into the case for them. This one missing person case takes her into a serie...more

Although this author has been compared to Mary Higgins Clark, the author Karin Slaughter came to mind as I read this book. The plot was darker and more intense, as is a Slaughter novel.
Well developed, likable, plausible characters throughout. Not to heavy on a rushed, silly romance either, which is something I detest in a good mystery/thriller. The romance in this book was light and entirely believable, which is a refreshing change from most books in this genre (romantic suspense).
The book begins...more

This is the first book that I have read byAndrea Kane, but I have been wanting to read it for a while. One of my GR clubs read it for a group read, but it was such a popular book that I couldn't get a copy from the library. I just finished the book about 5 minutes ago and I will say that it was a good read from beginning to end. It had everything that a book of this type needs, complex characters, a good story line, interesting sub lines, and a tie in to Greek gods and goddess that was interest...more

Twisted was a solid romantic suspense novel. Sloane Burbank is recovering from a devastating injury that ended her career at the FBI and is now a private consultant on numerous cases. When her childhood friend Penny's mother calls her and asks for her help in solving Penny's unexpected disappearance one year ago, Sloane agrees despite the poor odds of good news. As she delves into Penny's case, Sloane discovers that the case agent-in-charge is Derek Parker, her old flame. They draw a temporary t...more

I was slightly annoyed when I first opened this book. There are several pages of acknowledgements, then several definitions of acronyms used throughout. It took me almost 15 minutes before I started the book! However, now that I've finished the book, I'm not bothered by that any more. It's obvious how much research and work went into the background before Kane even started with the story itself.

This book started out a little bouncy. It went from place to place, and between victims and Sloane. B...more

This is my first Andrea Kane book, and I was really impressed with her writing. For me, one of the most important criteria in books is the writing style, which really scores here. The suspense, the characters, their relationships, the actual events all were truly remarkable. I should say the killer in this book is one of the most horrific minds I have read about. I was actually shuddering at one point and wondering how can a man get this bad. I liked the whys and the whats of this murder thrille...more

Let's see. Where should I begin. Boring comes to mind. The characters are lifeless. There's no sexual tension or chemistry between Sloane and Derek. The book does have a good plot. Too bad the writer created a killer that was so hum-drum and boring to make it really exciting or believable. Which reminds me, the ending sucked too. (Spoiler) She knocks him out. The end.

My biggest beef would be about the heroine, Sloane. She graduated law school, worked in the D.A.'s office for a year before being...more

TWISTED is the first in Ms. Kane's two-book series with Sloane Burbank. Early on you find out that that Sloane was previously an F. B. I. agent. She was in a hostage situation and was caught unaware and viciously stabbed in her hand. Rather than be behind a desk, she left the agency. She also quit an intense relationship with Derek Parker, a coworker of hers.

She had gone through several surgeries and was currently in physical therapy when the book opens. The parents of a childhood friend of Slo...more

Hmm. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about this book. I really, really liked it when I first started it and got into it easily but I ran into a busy spell and didn't have a whole lot of time to actually sit down and read and, therefore, didn't get back to it all that quickly. (Which could be a reason for my thoughts of indifference.)

But overall, I actually really liked it. I enjoyed the play on the goddesses though I didn't know the backstories on a few and actually had to do research (ya...more

Andrea Kane immediately captures the reader's attention with this crime thriller. The reader immediately can connect with the main character, Sloane Burbank, a former FBI agent who has been hired as a consultant to find a missing woman who was her friend from childhood.

The use of a different font and bolding text to indicate first person story from the mind of the serial killer was brilliant. Also, having a definitions area of acronyms and terms used throughout the novel was very helpful.

This is the best suspense book I've read this year. I am a big fan of suspense novels and if some romance is thrown in then that is good too. However I found "Twisted" to be extra special.

It has everything you need in a suspense tale. Sloane Burbank is a woman many of us would say is someone we'd like to be. She is smart, sexy, driven and at the same time vulnerable.

When she has set her sights on accomplishing something nothing will stop her, not even an ex-lover like Derek Parket. A plea from a...more

I finally finished the book!!! I'm now not an adult thriller virgin 8-)

Actually, I didn't exactly read everything. Initially I did read word by word because I didn't want to miss out anything but due to time constraint and increasing workload (aka studies) I had to resort to just having a gleam and poring through each page.

I love how Andrea Kane potrays the psycho's pov! Everytime I finished the psycho's pov I couldn't wait to read the next one, and damn when I found out who was the psycho, it...more

I just finished up reading Twisted by Andrea Kane and it was an awesome book! It was a book filled with great elements like suspense, mystery, murder, love, and romance. I really liked all of the characters. Sloane is a perfect role model for girls. She’s strong, independent, fearless, smart, and confident. She can definitely take care of herself. But even though she is a pretty independent woman, as a reader you really want her and her ex-boyfriend, Derek, to live happily ever after. My favorit...more

Sloane Burbank is making use of civilian life after leaving the FBI, teaching Krav Maga self-defense classes. A call from the mother of a childhood friend will quickly bring her back to her old career associations, however. Sloan's friend Penny has been missing for close to a year, and her case is stalled. Penny's mother hires Sloane to dig a little more and see if she can get the investigation moving again.

As similarities between Penny's disappearance and newer abductions begin to surface, Sloa...more

I don't often read crime novels by female authors, as unfairly I have always preferred male authors. However, Twisted by Andrea Kane has been both a revelation and a "wake up call" to me, a truly enjoyable top notch crime thriller. The story revolves around Sloane Burbank, an ex FBI agent, who when one of her childhood friends disappears agrees to help in the search for answers. She is helped in her endeavours by ex boyfriend and FBI agent and all round super sleuth Derek Parker. It soon becomes...more

Review by Jen:
Sloane is a former FBI agent who is called to work on a stalled investigation involving the disappearance of a childhood friend. The problem is her ex-lover, Derek, is the agent in charge and he's surprised to see her. But when more missing women are connected to the case and Sloane seems to be the link, the stakes are suddenly much higher.

Twisted took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I found myself reaching for the box of tissues more often than not and couldn't put the bo...more

Sloane Burbank works as a free-lance law enforcement consultant who was a former FBI agent. When her current contract is a missing person that was a childhood friend, it quickly becomes personal. Finished this on a train and..meh it wasn't bad just not the best..lots of police procedural lingo/FBI terms and a kinda too coincidental murder mystery...actually the only reason for the low rating is the predictability of the book..and why I don't read a lot of police novels..the book like many others feature a extremely hard and strong female that's also beautiful and delicate who has a past, an obstacle in her life compounded with a crime to solve and a romance she is running from because sh...more

I didn't like this book as a whole. Before you even start the book, you are provided with a diagram to understand FBI and NYPD pecking order, and a four page glossary of police abbreviations which you need to understand this book. That's just too much. In addition to that, the bad person in the book is heavily into Greek Mythology, and only uses god and goddess names when refering to himself and his victims. I got so confused about who was who that I just gave up trying to understand. It was mad...more

Twisted is an engaging and entertaining suspense novel. With solid research, the author has created a realistic portrayal of the FBI and the New York police department. The story begins with a series of unrelated crimes. There is an impending gang war in Chinatown as one rival gang brutally murders the prostitutes working for another gang. A college girl goes missing. Slowly and skillfully, the author tightly weaves the various stories together into one tight cohesive plot. The heroine, Sloane B...more

Now, women that have been in her life are disappearing and she teams up with ex lover Derek Parker to find out what is going on.
