Vol 13 claims to be "the ultimate Death Note encyclopedia" but it comes off more as a DVD Special Features section. It includes some filler profiles on the characters and timelines out the events of the story and the movements of the death notes themselves. Most of it is written in tiny print, yet in an oversized volume and an upcharged cover price. There are also some four panel comics from various magazines in the original printing which are cute but largely forgettable.

(There's not really any spoilers in this. Except for the bit about L. But if you read this review, I'm assuming it because you read the rest of the series - so no spoiler alert on this. You've been warned.)
*laughs delightedly, clapping hands* This is so cool! There was a quiz in this to see what character you're most like, riiiighhht? And guess what! I'm most like L! I couldn't believe it!

Somewhat dry, but not exactly shocking considering that it's basically an encyclopedic overview of the series. The four panels were fun, and it was interesting to read the pilot version of Death Note. Worth paging through if you're a Death Note fan, but definitely not a sit down and read through type of book. Includes an illustrated card of L.

I actually found Volume 13 to be far more enjoyable than the series itself, most likely for the fact that I loved getting a deeper look at the characters and discovered a numerous amount of little tidbits about the creation of the series & the aftermath.
I really liked Ryuk's comments.

I really enjoyed this Death Note volume 13. Of course, you don't read this manga to get more Death Note story, but rather to get a deeper understanding of the manga. This manga is more like the behind the scenes on a DVD. The creators answer many questions about all sorts of different things, explain different events in the manga, and make it more clear. I enjoyed reading the interviews with the creators, and it made my day to discover that their favorite character L! Both of them! <3 I also

i absolutely loved this book! the only reason i didnt give it 5 stars was there was a lot of pages with pure boring filler to make the book longer i think. i just wanted to read things i didnt know about the series, but other than that it was really great. there were character descriptions for all the characters which im thankful for cuz there are so many that i forget names and its a good reference to match a name with a face. It also included the deathnote pilot comic and several 4 panel comic

This is a truly great book. I think all fans of the wonderfully written Death Note series should BUY THIS BOOK!It does contain spoilers though so don't buy until your done with the series. With all the information you could stand to read read about Death Note, ranging from a complete description of everything L ate during the course of the series to a commentary on each chapter from the author. Who wouldn't want to know whats on Near's shopping list or to read the original manga pilot for the D

This is a great resource for someone who has read the entire Death Note series. However, because it is so complete, I wouldn't recommend it for someone who hasn't read the series. It ruins pretty much every single surprise. (I know, imagine that! An encyclopedia that tells you every single thing.)
There are interviews with Ohba and Obata throughout the book that really give some insight to what went into creating Death Note. What I personally found very interesting from reading the in More...

This book answers all those unanswered questions that I had about the story...even the ones that I forgot about. It makes the story that much greater because you get insight into Ohba and Obata's decisions which resulted in Death Note. This How to reawakened my love, intrigue and obsession with/for Death Note (if it ever left). I'm so glad I bought this.

IMHO, Death Note is at its best before L dies. The story after that gets dwindling and a little bit getting nowhere. Still, the twist makes it somehow bearable.
Death Note is, in short, a proof that Japanese manga could get as serious as possible about God and playing God. It's just that this manga tumbled a bit in playing it smoothly.

This book would only really be interesting to those who are huge fans of the deathnote manga series. I do like the manga, I've read them all, seen the films and that, and yet this book bored me. The endless character analysing, the never ending interviews, it all took up room that could have been filled with things that were much more fun to read.
The good parts of the book, in my opinion, were the 4 panels and the pilot manga right at the end.

13! My favorite number along with a complete Death Note over view. If you haven't read the books don't just skip here and read all the spoilers like an idiot. This little How To Read has everything, from exact character info to the first draft of Death Note, its awesome! A great ending!

I loved the Death Note series but I admit that I didn't find this encyclopaedia very informative. In all honesty throughout most of it, it almost felt like a chore to read. I did however enjoy the pilot episode... I think the Death Note we know and love was definitely better.

One of the most elegant and fun books about Death Note; very informative. I like how they even give you Chapter "0" at the end and a little quiz along with other snippets of enjoyment. As always, Death Note never fails me.

Kind of boring since it's a 'guidebook' to the series, thus not the sort of book to read from cover to cover (or at least not for me). I can remember managing to read the character profiles and the bonus chapter at the end...

Great art; I love how everything is drawn. Also, like that it gave all the characters information and it was like referencin different people and things of Death Note.

I didn't read this book from cover to cover since I just finished the whole series, but I gave it a good look and it seems like a handy little "dictionary" to the world of Death Note.
It has creator interviews, character bios (main characters as well as those with smaller roles, which is very neat if you really want to get into knowing it all), timelines, more Notebook rules and tricks, facts and small strips of random comics (of which most were a little strange, I must admi More...

It would have been a lot better if it hadn't been half summary of events. I read the series, I don't need to read what happened all over again every couple of pages... seriously, I got it the first time.

an encyclopdeia.... nothing too exciting about that.... except it is... it gives a bio on all the characters... 4 panel comics and a pilot
i especially like the part about l and his eating habits and all the weird lil commentary that came along with it.......
after reading this....it helps you to really appreciate the series a bit more....

This book is the equivalent of the two bonus discs in the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions.
