The Haunts of His Youth: Stories and a Novella

The Haunts Of His Youth are the Midwest and the Sixties when sex, of all sorts, became easier but love only more confusing. A shorter edition was published in 1969 as Tike and Five Stories. The New York Times said it had the immediacy, charm, and believability of a long letter from an old and good friend.

It’s great to have Tike and Other Stories, the collection that launched the career of an utterly original and vastly under-read author, repackaged and rereleased. "Zwillingsbruder" is on my list of absolutely perfect short stories, alongside "Lady with a Lapdog", "The Dead", and "A Wagner Matinee".

Recommends it for: lovers of character studies, the 1960s
This is a reprint of the stories originally published as "TIKE AND FIVE STORIES" (see my review of that title). I'm glad to see that Strong thought enough of the book to make it available to readers again. This book is one reason I became a writer!
