Rhino Romp by Jean Craighead George is a story book that goes along with the opening of Disney's newest park, The Animal Kingdom. George is the perfect author for this story, as an enviornmentalist telling this story of a day for a white rhino. The story just revolves around a typical day of a baby white rhino. Although Rhino Romp is attempting to be amusing and whimsical it seems more serious and in depth. A lot of very specific and proper animal/plant terms which is in itself advanced vocabulary makes it difficult to read smoothly despite the cheerful and mischievous baby rhino protagonist. It seems like almost a splice between a child's book and a science text.
Jean Craighead George wrote over eighty popular books for young adults, including the Newbery Medal-winning Julie of the Wolves and the Newbery Honor book My Side of the Mountain.
