In "Stillness Speaks, Eckhart Tolle illuminates the fundamental elements of his teaching, addressing the needs of the modern seeker by drawing from all spiritual traditions. At the core of the book is what the author calls "the state of presence," a living in the "now" that is both intensely inspirational and practical. When the pressures of future...more

Entire world is extremely busy in pursuit of living. But they are forgetting to live.

To be happay is "BE" Stilness can not External and it can not be forced.

At times when we meet great people or the lap of mother nature it just happens.

Allow it to happen.

Now it has to be deepened just by reliving the same like rewinding CD/DVD etc.

But I wounder why we have to speak ?

Communication is needed when there TWO .

Again, did the audiobook. Not bad; not great. I guess after Power of Now it was hard to impress me. His insights, voice, and suggestions are helpful though. I think I just wasn't in the mood and didn't find it as useful as Power of Now. It is not, however, a waste of time. If you like to meditate and reflect but haven't found much success with it, then I suggest this as a means to help.

No words. Tolle reminds me of Krishnamurti. It's a small book and very short. But the gems within get you to slow it all down and ease right into the moment you're in. Anyone looking to find ways to grab on to life and enjoy it more intensely and contemplatively, Eckhart Tolle may be the one for you.

Three gems from the chapter "Acceptance & Surrender":

- "Surrender is surrender to THIS MOMENT, not to a story through which you INTERPRET this moment and then try t...more

I really enjoyed reading this book. While you are reading it, it calms you down, makes you just enjoy the moment and forget about the stuff that bother you. It makes you realize what essentially is you that many are blind to see because they think too much. This book makes you realize what people fear the most is actually what brings peace and liberation if they stop fighting it.

Everyone should read this book. I wish I had money to buy it. But, it is from the library. This book jumped off the shelf and it was meant for me to read this bad boy! So just read a sentence and set the book down and then pick it up again. It has some very wise words to ponder in your life. I need to read this book about 40 more times and I would enjoy it every time.

This is one of those books that has soooo much good information for such a small book that you have to take your time reading it to really grasp everything that is said. I spent a few weeks just reading a few pages because I really wanted to absorb the info. Really helpful info. I will read this one again!

I listened to this book on CD and thought the author read the book very well. I appreciated his silences as well as his spoken words. I especially liked the thoughts about facing death. I also appreciated the idea that birth and death are related rather than life and death being opposites.

I digested this one slowly over about a year and a half (and it's a TINY book!). I love the part where the author says it's more important to set the book down often, as the present moment is more important than anything that he could say on the page.

More a series of thoughts and comments than a narrative and I think that works really well for the stillness and presence in the now that he is promoting. It also fits in nicely with ideas that have come up in other books I've been reading

What is it about Eckhart Tolle that kind of makes me throw up in my mouth every time I read it? I can find grains of wisdom, but it feels like you have to wade through a bunch of silly one-liners in order to get to it.

Another great read by Eckhart Tolle. A good tool for realizing how important it is to learn to be still and live in the now, and how the conversations/thoughts taking place in our minds can interrupt the natural flow of happiness that awaits us. Love it! :-)

Like Tolle's other books, this has the insight you expect and the tools are in how you use what has been printed on the pages. He makes it very clear that there is no magic in words and they've all been derived from various teachings including those of Jesus and Budda. The book is set up as short statements or paragraphs with a specific theme, not chapters in a book that you would read through. He expects you to stop reading and think about each one. Although a short book in length, the less...more

Wonderful book to pick up when you want to remind yourself to get back to stillness and the present moment.

I am a huge fan of Eckhart Tolle's and devoured this book in no time.

This is a beautiful, deep read that has permanent fixture status on my nightstand. It reads like "prose" and although small, takes energy to absorb. Brilliant little book.
Erin
A very interesting book on connecting with your inner-stillness. As a person who is always listening to something (music, noise, etc...) and always thinking or worrying about something or another, this book was a real eye-opener.
Rick
Love it.

The kind of book that transforms you without you realizing it, and you can no longer look at the world and your problems with the same seriousness.

Meditations that work well in tandem with the words of Tolle in The Power of Now. Great to keep on a nightstand to use for meditations or affirmation.

Well, this was my second time through, and I'll keep this book around to check in with regularly. Thanks to my sister Jen who gave it to me
David
Great quick read. I didn't really learn anythin new-as the material is the same as in the Power of Now-nice to see it in a condensed, easy to thumb through form, though.

The meek are the egoless. They are those who have awakened to their
essential true nature as consciousness and recognize that essence in all
“others,” all lifeforms.
They live in the surrendered state and so feel their
oneness with the whole and the Source. They embody the awakened
consciousness that is changing all aspects of life on our planet, including
nature, because life on earth is inseparable from the human consciousness
that perceives and interacts with it. T...more

great refresher. One to keep by the bedside and open to random passages to meditate on every so often.

Good book. One of those books you have to be ready to read or in the right mindset for. Guess I was. :)

...Tolle has many insights...he teaches "the Way" not specifically within the lineage of "the Way".
Wilma Rebstock
I took this on a mini retreat to Idaho and read this which was perfect for the occasion.
Madeline
Excellent quick-read that's comprised of exerpts from "Power of Now."

I'm loving this right now...something that I truly needed to bring additional peace of mind and spirit to my life. :) It all started with Oprah's Lifeclass last Monday...

Awesome collection of inspirational passages and words.

“Throughout history humans have inflicted countless violent, cruel, and hurtful acts on each other, and continue to do so. Are they all to be condemned; are they all guilty? Or are those acts simply expressions of unconsciousness, an evolutionary stage that we are now growing out of?

Jesus’ words, “Forgive them for they do not know what they do,” also apply to yourself.”
