Why was she always so self-centered, never considering anyone's feelings but her own?

Just what I was thinking for the second part of the book. I am so frustrated with this book! I am so glad this is the fourth Malory book I've read because otherwise I might have given up. How can a wonderful author like Johanna Lindsey take to so lovable character and a great villain and screw up the romance?

Welp!....It was a great book for something written in 1988. However, the hero is a dick and the heroine is a bitch. The communication issues were petty AS HECK! I just feel like the plot was hellishly lazy and rather bored me at times and dragged on. The characters were not likeable. They were just insanely rich and so they had the time to listen to no one and act selfish as freak. The beginning was so promising! I was seriously annoyed by Roslyn's character almost throughout the book. I've read other books in the Malory series and I've liked them a lot better. She's been painted as a beautiful heiress in search of a husband for protection. Her only flaw is that she has a terrible temper and is extremely stubborn.

A pretty cute romance, about a Scottish heiress who flees to London to escape marrying her despicable cousin, and falls under the spell of a confirmed rake. I liked how Lindsey keeps you guessing at what obstacles will keep these two apart; for example, you might think that when the heroine mistakes the hero's nephew for his son, this would cause a rift for a large portion of the plot, but instead the misunderstanding gets cleared up almost right away.

Roslyn is one of the most Unlikeable Romance Heroines Ever.

I would have given this a 4 stars but the heroine Roslyn Chadwick was such a shrew that towards the last third of the book end I wanted either Anthony Malory or her cousin Geordie to give her a good Spanking. Dan Anhtony yg sudah menginginkan Roslynn sebagai wanitanya sejak pertemuan pertama ikut membantu rencana Roslynn sebagai pemberi informasi (niat yg tak tulus karena kepentingan pribadi).

Saat Geordie berhasil menculik Roslynn, tapi untunglah Roslynn berhasil melarikan diri, Roslynn yg panik meminta bantuan Anthony untuk merekomendasikan 1 pria terbaik dari kandidat Roslynn. Tidak rela Roslynn menikah dengan orang lain Anthony mengajukan diri untuk menikahi Roslynn. Merekapun menikah dengan beberapa syarat yg harus dipenuhi oleh Anthony. Satu syarat yg membuat Anthony marah yaitu Anthony boleh mempertahankan wanita simpanannya. Sangat menyinggung perasaan Anthony yg berniat setia pada pernikahannya.

Roslynn yg tak ingin hatinya terluka berusaha menjaga perasaannya dengan menghindari jatuh cinta pada Anthony. Roslynn memberikan kebebasan pada Anthony dalam pernikahan mereka. Namun saat Roslynn mendapatkan bukti ketidaksetiaan Anthony, dimulailah kebodohan Roslynn dan Anthony. Roslynn yg tinggi hati dan tak ingin tersakiti berketetapan untuk tidak terlibat secara emosional dengan Anthony. Dan Anthony yg berperasaan lembut pada Roslynn namun merasa bahwa dirinya tak bersalah tidak ingin menjadi yg pertama mengakui perasaan cintanya.

Membaiknya hubungan percintaan yg telah lama padam antara Frances dan George sahabat Anthony tidak membuat hubungan Roslynn dan Anthony membaik. Tak hanya itu, penyelesaian masalah Geordie yg dbuat babak belur dan diusir kembali ke Skotlandia oleh Anthony belum dapat membuat keduanya berbaikan. Sampai saat mendekati hari pernikahan Frances dan George, dimana Frances mengkaji perasaan Roslynn yg akhirnya diakui Roslynn, membuat Roslynn berusaha untuk berkompromi dengan hatinya untuk mencintai dan menerima Anthony apa adanya. Dan berkat pesan James untuk Roslynn meyakinkan Roslynn maupun Anthony akan perasaan cinta mereka satu sama lain (tidak disangka kalau James prihatin akan hubungan kedua orang ini, padahal dari awal James punya niat untuk bersaing dengan Anthony dalam memperebutkan Roslynn).

She has inherited her grandfather’s entire estate, which is quite large and makes her quite wealthy. Her cousin, Jordy Cameron wants it, and will stop at nothing to get it, forcing her to flee Scotland for London, where she hopes to find a husband who will stop Jordy from coming after her. Rosalynn has no delusions, she only wants a decent husband who will protect her, after all, with her marriage contract, she will retain most of her assets anyway, and give her husband-to-be an allowance after their marriage. Attending the 3rd ball in 3 days, she is hiding from one particularly awful candidate on the lawn, when she runs into Anthony Mallory hiding under a tree. Anthony is not really attending, but making sure his 17-year-old nephew has no problems escorting Anthony’s favorite niece, Regina Eden. Upon seeing Rosalynn, the notorious rake is of course, practically obsessed with her from the beginning, naturally. After introducing themselves, Anthony immediately proposes an ‘arrangement’ and is quite persistent he and Rosalynn will end up in bed soon. She explains to him this will not be, as she has to get married, and everybody knows, rakes never want to marry. A few days later, an attempted kidnapping on the street leaves Rosalynn feeling a little over exposed, and determined to lead her pursuer, most likely Jordy’s hirelings, astray by leaving for a country party given by Lady Regina Eden. Upon arrival, Rosalynn learns Anthony is Regina’s uncle, but is determined to avoid him, as she desperately wants to get married, and feel safe. Four of her potential suitors are at the party, and she is trying to learn more about them. Anthony consistently dogs her, but she’s of course attracted to him as well, but knows she must marry and put her feelings aside. Anthony schemes to get closer, by offering to learn more about her potential suitors and reporting back to her, because he’s still convinced they’ll end up in bed, only after she’s married to someone else. For some reason, she agrees this is a good idea. After Rosalynn heads back to London, she is kidnapped in the middle of the night from her friend’s home and taken captive by Jordy, who has a shady priest on the way to marry them. Determined to escape, she jumps out of a second story window into a hay cart in nothing but her shift. Rosalynn ultimately rents a horse and takes three hours getting home. It’s there she decides to run to the country, to Regina’s home, sending her Abigail one direction, while she goes the opposite, to throw off Jordy. But instead of going straight to Regina’s, of course she has to stop at Anthony’s and find out who he’s decided she should marry! After hearing what happened to her, Anthony decides to seduce her and marry her himself, but only after telling lies about the other suitors she was considering. Rosalynn and Anthony are married in his niece Regina’s country home and she finally feels safe. After returning to London, Jordy attempts to kill Anthony on his morning ride, leaving Anthony angrier and out for blood. When he catches up with Jordy, he beats him to a pulp and forces him to leave town, explaining she’s married to him now, and he’ll never get anything from Rosalynn. Unfortunately, Jordy’s lackeys aren’t aware of this new agreement, and kidnap Rosalynn again. Did I mention Rosalynn and Anthony are arguing because she told him before they got married, he should continue with his mistresses, and when he came home smelling of a tavern wench while he was out searching for Jordy, she held it against him because he said he wouldn’t and didn’t cheat? Yeah, lots of drama about silly things. Ultimately Rosalynn and Anthony make up and are going to have a baby and everything’s peachy.

This book has received tons of great reviews from people whose opinion I tend to agree with, but not on this. I found so many things to annoy me I don’t know where to start. I like the premise of the book, and the plot, up until the constant bickering between Anthony and Rosalynn, so my complaint isn’t about the plot. Ultimately I hated the main characters.

Pretty strong words, but I did not like them Sam I Am! Anthony Mallory was a great character in the first book, I was really looking forward to reading his book, and sad to say, I am really disappointed. I think if Anthony had been paired with just about anyone else on the planet, it would have been a better book. However, I really disliked that he seemed to be just as determined and stubborn as Rosalynn in their disagreements, failing to tell her he did not have a go-round with a tavern wench, simply because he felt she should trust him. It almost seemed as he wanted to break her spirit, like a horse, to make her bend to his will, and I can’t see how that’s entertaining to read or fun to either him, or her.

Now onto Rosalynn. I can’t think of a single thing I liked about her, not her personality, or her attitude, nothing. No real reason was given as to why she was so untrusting of Anthony and others, she made it plain she wanted to get married, but kept going back to Anthony, but it was never explained why she felt so attracted to a man she was supposively so determined to avoid, the pettiness of spending his money simply because she was angry at him, the fact that she didn’t seem very friendly or loving toward her one true friend, Frances, especially when Frances announced she was getting married, she was never nice to really anyone! I could go on and on and on, but I felt she was a bitchy character, and not deserving of Anthony, let alone a book. The one time she appears kind in the whole book is to Jordy, of all people, leaving him a ton of money because, as it turns out he didn’t kill her mother and he’d been treated horribly all his life for it. She just did not make sense to me, and I didn’t want to get to know her, I wanted to smack her.

Also, throughout the whole book Jordy is seen as a horrible evil man, after her blood and her money, and is suspected of killing her mother, but nothing has ever been proven. At the end of the book, when his side is told, and Rosalynn is feeling bad for him, I kept thinking, first of all, he wanted to marry you against your will, he attempted to kill Anthony, second, why on earth didn’t you just ask him why he was upset/surprised when it was announced Rosalynn’s mother died, third, why he was upset about it didn’t exactly make sense to me, and now Rosalynn feels sorry for him? This whole part of the book was almost worthless to me.

I really can’t find much to like about this book besides the basic plot. The whole time I listened to the audio book, I wanted to throw something, or was gritting my teeth, or probably sighing heavily out of frustration. I will not read this book again, I don’t recommend it, and I’ve sorta doubtful of this author now. I will give her one more try, but it’s gotta wow me, it’s got to be better, almost anything is better than this.

Ah, the beginning of a huge love affair for me. This is the introduction to my "guilty pleasures'. Books that are pure escapism, a bit cheesy, a bit bawdy, but intoxicating, none the less. I fell in love with the Malory's (Tony in particular).....in fact, I want to be adopted by the Malory family. Wow! I couldn't put this book down it was so good. I wanted to find out how the story ended but was sad when I finished! I can never get enough of these Malory guys! This book has the best hero that Johanna Lindsey has ever written about: Anthony Malory. I love it when James and him get together, but Anthony alone makes my blood boil. Geordie desires Roslynn's inheritance for himself and will force her into marriage and discard her once he obtains that which he thinks is rightfully his. Roslynn's been warned about men like Anthony Malory and even though she's attracted to him, she has one purpose and he doesn't suit. But Malory isn't one to deny himself and he decides to relentlessly pursue her. Not for marriage, of course, but definitely for his mistress. He's even willing to help her find a husband if it gets her into his bed more quickly.

There came a point in this book where I really began to dislike Anthony's rakish ways. Once that happened it was very hard to recover from my aversion and see the Tender Rebel side. I wanted to. I tried so hard and I even took a day off reading so I could come back and give him a second try. That helped. But I kept thinking back to how he made me feel manipulated and my dislike turned toward blame as I held his shallow, frivolous, self-indulgent behavior responsible for for putting Roslynn's life at greater risk. Her life is at stake and she explains this to Tony but from his words and actions it seems as if all her cares about is lifting her skirt. When he gets her alone he's charming and wicked and most of the time you are kicking your self for being delighted by his words and antics. He's the consummate rake (and very reminiscent of Nicholas from book #1) and I do love rakes, but Tony crossed a line for me at some point. What was incorrigible and amusing encroached on defilement. The seduction turns into coercion, and no matter what was written about how much the heroine wanted him too, I didn't believe it or couldn't get past the icky feeling I was left with. Roslynn might have been feeling anticipation but all I felt was alarmed. I felt like Tony took advantage of not only Roslynn, but likely most of the women he's been with. In fact, the love scene in the chair seemed more like what I felt was the true Tony. I'm normally a fan of rake stories but these first two Malory novels have left me feeling closer to disgusted with there rakish heroes.

The mid to latter part of the novel is spent with Tony and Roslynn fighting. One minute she wants one thing but pride stops her from asking for it. The next minute it seems as if Tony's done this or that so the fight escalates or rages on. It was maddening to read page after page after page. And the climax with Geordie was, well, anticlimactic, especially since we're told how smart, sneaky and clever Geordie can be. I expected some great plan and an equally great rescue. The best part of anything involving Geordie was Roslynn's impetuous escape.

As with most Lindsey novels I've read the wit shines through. Her novels are well written and even when I wasn't enjoying some aspect I could never discount the quality of what I was reading. Once I took a day's break from reading and came back I saw Tony with renewed eyes. I liked him or at least didn't hate him as much. But the back and forth conflict that is continuously throughout the latter half bogged the story down too much. At that point I was over carrying who or what Tony was and was just ready for it to move on. I was thrilled, thrilled, thrilled that we got a glimpse of James and 'the boy' who will be featured in book #3, Gentle Rogue. This novel is the whole reason I started this series and I cannot wait. I do have one misgiving and that is that James knows the secret of 'the boy' and I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy reading about another Malory man having the or taking advantage. :/(less)

I love Johanna Lindsey!! Her books always make me smile, cry, laugh and just really enjoy my time reading. This is book number 2 in the Malory novels and once again Johanna does a great job in making you love the Malory men and hate them at the same time.

Kitap güzel sıkılmadım ama açıkçası Anthony'e daha iyi bir hikaye yakışrdı diye düşünüyorum:)Çok basit kaldı ve bir çırpıda biten bir romandı.Evlenmeye gelmiş bir iskoç kızı zorunlu olarak sözde evlenme olayı ve sonradan gelişen bilindik bir hikaye.Yazarımızı bu kitapla değerlendirseydim sanırım tadımlık kitaplar yazan bir yazar der kitaplarını okur ve ikinci kez okumazdım.Keşke bu kadar beklediğim bir karaktere daha iyi bir hikaye yazsaydı.Umarım sizler daha çok beğenirsiniz...

Anthony berniat untuk membantu Lady Roslynn mencari suami yang baik dan tidak mengincar hartanya walau akhirnya Anthony terpaksa gigit jari setiap kali ada yang mendekati anak asuhnya itu. Sampai akhirnya Anthony tanpa sadar sudah terikat dengan Roslynn, begitu juga dengan Roslynn. This is probably one of my favorite Malory books, although I think that Anthony is an absolute cad. He is a complete rake, and he certainly gets hoisted by his own petard when he decides to pursue innocent Rosalyn, who's on the lookout for a husband, not a lover. He's never met a woman like Rosalyn, who is Scottish to her toes, and not one to fall easily for his charms. However, he is a Malory, so she does fall, eventually. But she ends up getting the husband she came looking for.

Second in the romance sieries. Anthony's story.
She forms this plan to get married to avoid her cousin, (who is less than shady). Anthony tricks her, falls for her and they get hitched. She sets up silly obsticals to keep their relationship at arms lengths.and their pride prevents them from getting over it quicker.

I like the Malory series. A friend of mine recommended it. So I thought I would give Romance a whirl. Not bad. A good story is a good story. Can't wait to get my hands on #3

Johanna Lindsey / Hırçın Aşk..Anthony ve güzel iskoç Rosslyn in hikayesi olan bu kitabı sıkılmadan okudum diyebilirim ..Aralarda geçen "cimcime" katliamını saymazsak tabii :) açıkçası kitapla ilgili gelen yorumlar kötü olunca en kötüyü hayal ederek okudum ama en azından umduğum kadar çıkmadı :))) Önceki kitaplarda favori olarak gösterilen karakterleri kendi kitaplarında tutuk görmek biraz üzücü olsa da diğer dayı James 'in hikayesini merak ediyorum :))

Ok. I love Anhony and (of course) james in the other malory books. But somehow in his own story, i think he deserves better plot. I like Rosslynnl, but the towards the middle and the end of the books it's just become to easy to guess. But the dialogue and other charachters still interesting and helps. I didn't read the malory's novel in order. So it's nice to say that the other's charachters still have their interesting story.

awalnya ga tertarik sama buku ini nganggur berbulan2, bahkan sempet kepikiran mau ngasih 2bintang, nhyebelin sama si anthony baru kenal udah nyosor2, tp ditahan2 baca terus ampe ahir ternyata makin ga bisa ngelepasin bukunya, ow ternyata ceritanya makin seru malah gantian si roslyn yg ganti nyebelin, sempet naik lg mau ngasih 3bintang tp ternyata ga tega karena abis baca ini jd ketagihan lg sama genre romance:)

My least favorite book so far in the series. Rosaline drove me crazy, I didn't like her and I was really disappointed. The heroine fighting over nothing and then trying to spend all of her husbands money to get back at him. I just don't like childish behavior that goes on for way to long, it gets tiring. I have been reading the series out of order so I had been really excited about reading Anthony's story.
