An absolutely brilliant work, extraordinary dialogue, wit, wordplay and multiple points of narration (one from a deeply cynical and world-weary house cat named "Spontaneous Combustion"). Not necessary to read the entire Darby series to be taken by this story. Ernie Hebert is at the top of his craft.
This novel has everything I like. Quirky dynamic characters, an interesting story, a little magic. And it's set in the woods of southwest NH. I really enjoyed this book.
