How Underwear Got Under There: a brief history is a hilarious historical account of underwear written for older elementary school aged kids. Explaining and illustrating the personal and social reasons for underwear - from the cavemen's loincloths and their need for protection (and comically linking this to the "jock strap" of today) to the outrageous underwear of the late 1700's and concluding with the underwear of tomorrow!

yikes on corsets
i didn't know that it was considered shocking for women to wear anything btw their legs (which is why they wore skirts not pants and rode sidesaddle, at least in european culture, which this book pretty much assumes). so they just went without panties. what about when they had their uh, monthly time i wonder? or did they just sit and do nothing then? maybe that's why they had to stay in the tents w/ other women during jewish way-back-when time.

A really well written, well designed, and well presented book that has huge flaws: It's not only a Brief History, but a western-centric (or just U.S./U.K - centric) book with a narrow lens that reads as if it were universal. There is no back matter whatsoever, either.

A great idea for a non-fiction book! The page layout could have been clearer--2-columns per page is a little distracting. Still, this is a great choice for the kid who has to do a research project but isn't interested in other topics.
