I think there's a very good reason that this book series has spanned decades and maintained popularity. It gives children the chance to think on their own and make their own choices for behaviors that carry over into their adult lives. Many of these issues will be ones that will persist through their lives, just on different levels of course.

I know I still have times when I watch a lot of television and start to wonder if I'm becoming a couch potato. Books like these at least make me *think* abo...more

Why oh why am I looking at this? Ages ago my crazy friend Tegan sent me a recommendation on Goodreads recommending this book (obviously), so doing the smart thing, I ignore it, then today I am looking back at my friend recommendations and I see this one, I decide to finally check it out. Turns out this is one of my sisters books. I showed it to her and she went into a 30 minute talk about what the plot and characters were all about, while I am being bored to tears.

The next day we are at someone...more

"Don't watch too much television."

I think this book teaches a valuable lesson in time management for children who are watching too much television. Especially in today's time with everything being electronic its hard to get children "back to the basics" with just playing outside. Reading this book has provided some insight on how to educate children to staying healthy mentally and physically by engaging in outside activities rather than watching TV.

A learning experience would be to demonstrate to the children different and effe...more

My granddaughters loved this and are thinking up activities to do instead of watching TV after school. They are five years old and were tickeled to see that Pappa could't watch TV either.

I like that the family ends up watching the sky for the "big show." And that I can simply say, "Sorry, we've had too much TV.", and my daughter totally gets it.

My kids love all the Berenstain Bears books, and they don't realize there are important lessons in each story.

Mama Bear recognizes that her family is addicted to television. She decides to do something to make a change. She proclaims that there is to be no TV-viewing for a week.
Brother Bear and Sister Bear comply, but Papa Bear sneaks in TV-viewing whenever he can.
After a week of watching stars, taking a nature walk, and shopping, the two cubs have been weaned. But Papa Bear still sits in front of the television set.
Brother Bear works on a cube puzzle, and Sister Bear knits a rug. Then Papa Bear sud...more

The Berenstain Bears discuss the topic of how much television should be watched in a household. This book could help parents solve their t.v overuse issues in their homes. By the end of this book the family has worked through their obsession with television and would rather do more fun and productive activities.

This book could be read in a classroom to introduce a discussion about time spent at home. Find out what your students do, how often they watch t.v or play videogames, and what time compa...more

I loved reading these books as a little kid. I can't even remember how many of them I read. This one stands out to me because I was't allowed to watch very much TV as a child. In this book Mama notices her family is watching too much tv. So they work together to figure out other things to do as a family. These books were a fun way to learn about manners, rules and how to be a good person. My parents would also read them to me before I went to bed.

Oh my, I love this book! This is one of my favorite all time book that I would read about almost every night. I was first introduced to it as I started my 1st grade, that's where I met my best friend Nichelle; our favorite book we loved. This is a great children's book to read; it has so much things that can catch a young reader's mind and with all this easy ABC books a child can get many information from it.

Growing up, I always read The Berenstain Bears series, and I still believe these books will be enjoyable for kids. Not only is this series an easy read, but the lessons are lessons children can take them them for the rest of their lives. I believe this specific book is one of the Berenstain's most valuable lesson. Children in this generation rely so much on technology to have fun, and this book teaches children that there are many other ways to spend time.

I think this is a really good book to read to children to show them that they do not need to rely on modern technology to occupy their time. When I was little, we really only had tv, and two channels at that, and now with all the modern technology out there, I feel it is even more important to show children that there are so many exciting things to do and learn without television, etc. I highly recommend.

A great idea! No TV for an entire week. The Bear family watches way too much TV and our household is very similar to theirs in this regard; now we just have to convince "Papa Bear" to go without for a whole week. Hmmmm... In any case, it's a great reminder of all the many things you can do without the boob tube on.

★★★★The Berenstain Bears and Too Much TV by Stan and Jan Berenstain
The cubs are just like children, in that they love their tv. The cubs stop playing their games, playing outside, and even family dinner talk time. Mama has had enough, and puts her foot down. No tv for a week, even for Papa. Can they make it?

I remember reading this when I was younger. I also remember experiencing this issue with my mother. "..Too Much TV" is a great book, now a little dated with all of the new technology we have, it sends the right message that kids should be outside playing using their imaginations, not inside crowded over a tv screen.

This book illustrates in such a lovely way what you're missing out on when you watch too much TV. Sometimes I wish they wouldn't make Papa Bear behave like such a doofus. While I realize it may be helpful to show that grown-ups aren't perfect, either, it sometimes feels a little belittling to fathers.

I love all the Berentstain Bears books but this one in particular because Mama Bear thinks the "Cubs" are watching too much TV and so they have to read instead. What a great project to do with our students. Have them turn off the TV of a whole week have them document what they do instead-like read!

I think that this book is great, because brother bear and sister bear watched to much TV.So mama bear grounded them for one week. So they made up their own show. Then after they are not grounded anymore, they watched TV again. Then they saw one rare bird so they went to see it.Mama bear was happy that the cubs didn't watch TV anymore.

One of my all time favorite Berenstain Bear books. Mama Bear notices that her family spends far to much time in front of the television and decides that everyone, including Papa Bear, was going to go t.v. for one entire week. Getting out of the t.v. habit was very hard at first for the cubs, and especially Papa. They had to relearn about all the wondrous things real life has to offer. I would encourage EVERY family to do this. My family did this about 4 years ago, only we had a no t.v. month. Si...more

this book is about when brother bear and sister bear and papa bear are waching to much t.v. then mama bear gets really mad at them because they are waching when they get home from school. then it goes to far. what will mama bear do?
Modboy
I like this one despite the fact that the moral of the story is heavy-handed (hint: read the book title) and soon easily forgotten. Important though, and Mama Bear's just so sassy in this one, it's hilarious.
Lucia
The Berenstain Bears are classic books for childhood, even the more modern ones such as TOO MUCH TV. This is a good message for young children from characters they already love and respect.

When the TV is on
All day without rest,
Mama knows it's too much
And Mama Knows best.

Mama decides that the family is watching too much TV and decides to have a week without TV.

I loved the Berensteins when I was a kid. I'm not digging them so much as an adult. This one isn't so bad, I agree with the time suck possibilities of tv.
Megan Sewell
These books are great for families trying to teach children valuable life lessons, this book helps teach kids why watching too much tv is bad.
TheMcafeeKids
They had too much TV. They turned the TV off for 1 week. They saw tadpoles, they rode their bikes. They wanted to watch TV though. They all went and looked at the stars. Brother bear bought a puzzle and sister bear got a knitting set.
Benjamin Plume
This was written in an era when TV was still supposed to be the downfall of society because it was new and children liked it.
Melissa
Same Berenstain Bear style that teaches kids that sometimes TV can keep you from doing other things that you might enjoy.
